This year marks my 20th year of being an eye surgeon! Wow, how did I get here so quickly? The answer can only be in the journey itself. I have been truly blessed to have a journey that has stayed fresh and exciting, filled my cup and fed my soul, and resulted in unbelievable experiences and long-lasting relationships. This is the KEY to making our journeys feel like they were worth it if you're reading this, I am truly excited to share all of that with you! I think it's OK to not know where our journey is going to go and or to know it's full potential when we start, we just have to begin... As a young girl in the north part of Pakistan I don't think I could've ever imagined that this is the platform where I'd be sitting Almost 40 years later! I saw a lot of people break barriers on my journey: from my grandmother who pursued her education and had her masters in a generation with many women didn't even go to school, to my aunt who was my professional inspiration, a doctor in the army, a young widow, who raised her kids all by herself, I knew the unthinkable WAS possible. Somehow, my parents knew that education was the key to a strong future: We landed all the way from Pakistan to College Station, Texas, where my dad pursued his Master's at Texas A&M University. I was the shy girl in the back of the classroom I was the one with self doubt thinking I was so different I was the kid who nobody talked to! Pursuing my studies, and knowing I wanted to take care of people and make a difference helped me to arrive eventually in Austin, Texas for college and then all the way to Boston at Harvard for the completion of my eye surgery training. When we study, we better ourselves, and we arm ourselves with endless possibilities. now I'm standing here in my beloved Austin after 20 years: A female surgeon in a male dominated field A business owner and founder An entrepreneur A caretaker not only to my patients, but to all the people who make Westlake Eye Specialists their professional family and who I am grateful for So I'm starting this Instagram page to share every bit of that journey with all of you,to show you what's possible, to inspire you, and to learn from you. by @dr.vendalvision
