For those who live elsewhere in the Bluegrass: Get your Flu vaccine between now and Election Day! It will give you protection against the flu for about 6 months into spring. It’s one step to make your body smarter against illness. And while you’re setting up your appointment, make sure you’re registered to vote by October 5th!

Taking time to move your body, dive into a hobby you love, or simply rest isn’t taking away from others—it’s preparing you to give them the healthiest version of you.

You can’t serve your purpose if you burn out the vessel carrying it.

Happy Dolly Day. Her song rings so true, and sometimes it feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day. One study said that primary care providers need 27 hours in a day. Trying to do everything we can. Today, just sprinkling some joy and thinking of Ms. Dolly.

Kentucky is now reporting 50 measles cases across 10 counties, and the outbreak is continuing to spread.

Measles is extraordinarily contagious, and people can spread it before they even know they’re sick. That’s why waiting until there’s a case at your child’s school or in your community is not the best time to start thinking about protection.

If your child is due for MMR, or you’re an adult who isn’t sure whether you’re protected, check your vaccine record now.

The goal is to already be protected before you’re exposed.

Three numbers everyone should know: 988.

You don’t have to know exactly what to say. You don’t have to decide whether things are “bad enough” before reaching out. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 by call, text, or chat for anyone experiencing a mental health or suicide crisis.

Save the number. Share it with your kids. Make sure they know they can use it too.

If you’re pregnant and traveling somewhere with an active measles outbreak, it’s understandable to wonder what that means for you.

If you’ve had two doses of MMR, you’re very well protected against measles. Pregnancy doesn’t erase that protection. You should still avoid known exposures and pay attention to public health alerts, because measles during pregnancy can be more serious. #mmr #measles #measlesoutbreak by @dr_monalisaky

It’s the end of August. End of the state fair, start of pumpkin season with milder temperatures too. It’s a beautiful reminder of the natural seasons and our own seasons of life. Reading about Dolly Parton, her grace, her sparkle, her joy and her purpose these past few days life in perspective. May we find our own ways to be better for our fellow humans and leave the world a better place, just like Dolly did. The light in me sees and honors the light in you since it is the same light. Namaste. #birthday by @dr_monalisaky

Dolly Parton gave $1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for COVID-19 research in 2020, and her fund ultimately supported research connected to the Moderna vaccine.

She’s even acknowledged in the published clinical trial paper.

One of my favorite parts of organized medicine is getting physicians from across Kentucky in the same room to talk about the issues affecting our patients, our communities, and our profession.

At the KMA Annual Meeting, we debate policy, bring forward new ideas, and help decide what Kentucky physicians will advocate for in the year ahead. It’s a good reminder that our voices matter beyond the walls of our clinics. #kma #kentuckymedicalassociation by @dr_monalisaky

Kindergarten vaccination rates are declining in the United States.

New CDC data for the 2025–2026 school year show fewer kindergartners are up to date on routine childhood vaccines, including MMR, DTaP and polio vaccines. At the same time, vaccine exemption rates have reached another record high.

This matters for parents because declining childhood vaccination rates can create pockets of susceptible children where vaccine-preventable diseases can spread. We are already seeing the consequences with the return of measles outbreaks across the United States.

Routine childhood vaccines protect individual children, but high vaccination coverage also helps protect classrooms, schools and communities.

Talk with your child’s pediatrician about which vaccines they need to be protected and up to date for school.

As a pediatrician, these are five things I think are absolutely worth the money when it comes to injury prevention. None of them can eliminate risk completely, but each one helps create another layer of protection for the children we love.
