The Ghost of the Evergreen Forests — White-winged Wood DuckDeep inside the pristine wetlands and evergreen forests of Dehing Patkai, lives one of India’s rarest and most enigmatic birds — the White-winged Wood Duck.Known locally as Deo Hanh (the spirit duck), this magnificent species is a symbol of the fragile forest ecosystems of Northeast India. With its striking white wing patches, golden eyes, and secretive nature, it quietly moves through forest pools and swampy habitats, often hidden beneath the dense canopy.Once widespread across the region, this critically endangered bird now survives in only a few remaining strongholds, making conservation of its habitat more important than ever.
