This is my Bulbul Tarang, also known as an Indian banjo, purchased from the Music Inn in the West Village around 2002. Typewriter keys act as frets that lower onto the large group of strings that are almost tuned to the same note. There are also a couple drone strings but they don’t always sound. This beauty doesn’t get much use these days, but I wrote this song “Riverside” on it almost 25 years ago! by @dr_p_hogues

Next up! Pre-war M. Hohner Chromatica No. 265 Double Bass Harmonica. This beast is really hard to play so I just make drones and love how I can shape the sound by changing the shape of the inside of my mouth. Goes well with birds and Friday afternoon traffic. You can hear this instrument on many of my collaborations with @sbb_land !!! taken in No Fun by @dr_p_hogues

Paul’s Unique Instrument Collection Post No. 1! Here I am improvising on an Estey children’s pump organ ca. 1940 that I found on eBay many many moons ago. I have a thing for miniature instruments and this single reed organ has a warm rich sound that makes my brain tingle in the best way.
.
This Spring feels like the right time to embrace being an imperfect human and making sounds from scratch. Let’s make music together that’s full of spirit and errors. HMU! #pumporgan #estey #improvisation #human #aisucksballs taken in Ladd's Addition by @dr_p_hogues

I’m excited to share that my new album Many Moods is out in the world! This record is my musical universe in its simplest, most intimate form - solo piano pieces built on curious chord changes and melodies that (I hope!) linger in your ear. You can find it on Bandcamp, Apple Music and most other streaming services. Link in bio. I hope you enjoy it! taken in Ladd's Addition by @dr_p_hogues
