‼️ If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please dial 999.

🚨 If you need to speak with someone, call Samaritans free on 116 123 (24/7) or text SHOUT to 85258 if talking feels hard.

📞 Urgent mental health help and support, dial NHS 111 (option 2).

👩🏻‍⚕️ Speak to your GP or another doctor who will listen. Hormonal fluctuations can affect mental health and there is help available.

🧐A recent study published by British Journal of Psychiatry showed menopause-related psychological distress declined over time (~ 46% reduction on average). The data was collected from 957 women who attended a UK menopause clinic. The biggest improvement in mental health outcomes was seen with combined HRT, including formulations with testosterone. The results highlight the need for menopause-sensitive mental health assessments and integration of psychological screening into routine menopausal care.

🧠 A peak into my mind.

👩🏻‍⚕️ As a doctor who specialises in skin + hormones, I encourage my patients to go to the gym and lift weights for all the proven benefits. But I don’t always follow my own advice. Here are some internal talk to get me out of door in my gym gear.

😈 Take what you need. In no particular order, it’s my sneaky way of encouraging you to get to the gym too.

🐉 We need to be strong if we are ever going to be a dragon rider / wolf rider (depending on what fantasy audiobook I’m reading)
🫠 Stop procastinating. We can doom scroll later.
💪 No one is going to take care of us when we get older.
🍨 We can get ice cream later.
🫠 BLAH! BLAH! BLAH! I’m not listening. I’m heading out the door.
🖐️ Just 5 exercises. That’s all we need to do. 5 exercises.
🥳 We’ll be happy that we went.
🔧 We’re stiff because you haven’t been to the gym.
🧘🏻‍♀️ We can work out at home. We’ll go tomorrow.
🤪We said we’ll go today. Come on woman!! Start moving!

🧠What does your brain say when you don’t want to go to the gym?

This ingredient will be doing its rounds with summer over but higher concentration doesn’t always means better for your skin. Sometimes what worked in the past may start irritating your skin, whether that’s due to hormonal changes, inflammation load or stress.

Aim to reduce inflammation and strengthen the barrier before focusing on rejuvenating/ treating. Follow for more skin tips ✨

It’s not always our hormones.
It’s not always a problem to fix.
September was a transition period after coming back from a memorable summer trip to South Africa with my family and getting back into London mode.

I hope this doesn’t happen to you or a woman you care about.

Aesthetic treatments can be life changing for the right patients and in the right hands. And for some, it can just be a leg up to help us move through life.

But it should never rushed. You can take time to think about it. You can say no. You can change your mind. You should not be shamed for not choosing the treatment or the practitioner. You deserve to make choices that liberate you, whether that is to have or not to have treatment.

There are good practitioners around, both male and female who educates on evidence, take it slow, realistic with your goals and work at your own pace.

You deserve a practitioner who respects where you’re at, actively listens, acknowledges your concerns, creates a safe space for honesty and supports you in achieving your goals ✨

Our inner critic already does the work of putting us down. We don’t need someone in “power” to add to the weight. Having good people in our corner makes life a little easier to navigate 🔥

Sharing from my experience after 20 years in practice. Hope this helps growing practitioners 💜…. Especially if you’re the eldest daughter. In no particular order…

🔥You will succeed because you’ve always been the resourceful and dependable no matter the cost…. until you prioritise your health and find a new definition of success.

🔥You will want to save everyone especially your patients who have troubles in life, feeling like the protective big sister you’ve been expected to be….. until you realise your job is to hold space but not to be their saviour.

🔥 You will over-explain because you struggle to say no in fear of disappointing others…. until you realise you don’t need to justify your gut feeling.

🔥You will take on more than you need to because you can….until you realise you are not a burden and deserve support too.

🔥 You will get distracted, absorbing other people’s chaos ….until you trust yourself to tell who has your interest at heart from who’s taking advantage.

🔥You will secretly love being needed by your patients ….. until you realise it’s a toxic trait and you learn to love yourself without having to continually prove your worth.

🔥You will have sleepless nights over complaints and negative feedback …. until you learn how to stop spiralling and take the lessons without attacking yourself as a person.

🔥 You will want to micromanage people around you …. until you realise you don’t always need to hold it all together alone.

🔥 You will feel the pressure to be perfect because your patients are looking up to you…. until you realise it’s your flaw of being human that connects you the most.

Cheering you on 💪

Finally got organised and updated my skincare routine with the change in weather. Sharing my favourite go-to’s if you have sensitive skin like mine.

Wind, wind and more wind.

Our skin may not like the change in season but effects are worst when our hormones are fluctuating. The aim is to control what we can control and keep the skin consistently hydrated. Sensitive skin does not like surprises.

My favourite milky toner from @tirtir_global which you can purchase from any major KBeauty store. In London, there’s @pureseouluk . This was a game changer for me. Skip the normal toners and choose a milky essence. You will never go back.

This hyaluronic acid from @naturium is thick enough to feel it’s worth the money and thin enough so it absorbs quickly. I hate those (I will not name names) that are cheap and feels like watery goo!

Specialist skincare focuses on baby skin, eczema, dermatitis and acne skin. The aim is to repair and protect the skin barrier. When the barrier is strong, less water is lost and it’s less reactive.

@qvskincareuk are one of my favourite brands. So is Epaderm and Avene. Their creams tend to be on the richer side.

Don’t knock it until you try it. I went through tubs of these when my dermatitis flares up. Applying it feels like a fire blanket over a burning flame. Instant relief!

I used to believe taking medication for skin is cheating until she started having a mind of her own in perimenopause. Now I don’t see holding up on mediation as a heroic act but just prolonging the inevitable.

Keeping it simple and consistency wins the game.

Autumn is a great time to start or level up your retinoid game. It will help reduce pigmentation, strengthen your skin and boost collagen/elastin.

If you ever thought of having skin treatments, colder darker months are always better.

Hope this helps. Any questions, let me know 💜 by @dr_terry_

👩🏻‍⚕️ Save this video if the “11” frown line bothers you.

Ps: You can still love yourself and still want to reduce your “11” frown lines. They are not mutually exclusive.

1️⃣ If your frown muscles are very strong, relaxing them with Botox can help prevent it from getting worst, reduce the creasing of the skin and maximise the effects of your skincare. The aim is to break habit of frowning unconsciously. This can also help tension headaches, migraines + lifting your eyebrows to open your eyes.

2️⃣ If the line is more like a fold, dermal filler can help to restore the underlying supportive volume lost. You can test this by stretching the area. If the line improves, dermal filler may be suitable. This does not affect your muscles.

3️⃣ If the line is visible at rest and doesn’t improve much on stretching, the problem lies in the skin. It’s like a crease in the bed sheet that you’re unable to iron out (if you’re like your bedsheets crease free). Skin boosters eg Sunekos, Polynucleotides + PRP can improve skin health by boosting hydration + stimulation.

4️⃣ Resurfacing treatments eg microneedling with exosomes, chemical peels or lasers removes the upper layers of the skin, encouraging regeneration.

5️⃣ Upgrading your skincare routine using a retinoid, at home dermaroller + be on top of your moisturising game.

6️⃣ Last but not least - Leave it alone + grow a fringe to cover it up. Daily face massage to relieve tension + Frownies when you sleep.

✨ Currently, I’m in no. 5/6 club with Botox sparingly.

👩🏻‍⚕️ Hope this helps. What area would you like me to focus on next?

“Why deface your body with tattoos?”

A well-meaning relative commented when I shared inspiration for my second tattoo.

✨I’ve always admired tattoos and the artistry and meaning behind them. What people don’t know is it took me 46 years to have my first tattoo.

46 years to choose what some people might call “selfish” for my body.

A body that was lost to beauty standards disguised as empowerment.

Lost to people taking advantage disguised as love.

Lost to rules disguised as belonging.

✨What people see as crisis, I see as making a decision for myself calmly, calculatedly and confidently. It was not made on a whim.

✨What’s in crisis I believe is the image some people had of me. The good girl, the compliant one, the peace maker.

These parts of me served me well growing up and I would not be the woman I am today without them. And yet these parts of me no longer lead the way.

✨Every time I stretch myself doing something that fills my soul, it widens the cracks of boxes and ceilings that confine me. As I slow my pace of life, I get to listen to the spaces in between and discover who I am and what I want without the labels and expectations.

✨Big thanks to Angela @le.sinex for bringing to life my 2nd tattoo which took me 2 years to find the right everything. 3 dragons flying from my heart in magical unison named Respect, Love and Trust ✨ . They were forged when life tried to break me and are little reminders never to leave my side. They are also in honour of my surname “Loong” which means Dragon in Chinese. They are beautiful and all mine 💜
