Had a great send off for my last shift at GRMC. Thanks to all the amazing people I’ve crossed paths with over the past 4 years. Well, it’s officially moving time.
Sweet home Alabama, you’ve been too good to us.

Alena Kirstein and I came here four years ago not knowing what to expect. Both of us from Florida, didn’t know a soul in Gadsden, left our family hundreds of miles behind. New adventure. You welcomed us with open arms and incredible southern hospitality. We had the best neighbors in the world that helped us get settled in a new place, pretty much from day one. Chad Mink, idk wtf I would have done without you and Charity.
We got through residency (by the skin of my teeth, I’ll add) where my attendings taught me how to be a diligent family medicine doctor and then I found mentors that I am so unbelievably thankful for that helped me find my passion in Emergency Medicine. Andy Vann Courtney Crosby Newsome, Dr. Padley and all the attendings/NPs. You guys gave me a career. I feel so indebted to you, it feels like an answered prayer for me. Along with the incredible staff at the GRMC ER who watched me as a resident not knowing how to do anything, to now trusting me to work alongside you. I really feel like I grew up down there and I absolutely LOVE coming to work (never thought I’d say that).
We had our first child Cecelia in Alabama. Born in Birmingham at 28 weeks in 2024. She’s grown up with another godsend Brandi May who helped take care of her while alena and I were working long hours at the hospital. Brandi has been there day one and took care of CC like she was her own. Another person that I don’t even know how we got so lucky to have in our lives. Only god. CC will ALWAYS Roll Tide.
To our friends and colleagues we met along the way, thank you so very much for everything. Our next stop is Orlando Florida where we’ll be just a few minutes away from Disney. We will have annual passes and that’s non negotiable. I’ll be continuing my career in the Emergency Room and Alena will start her career in Family Medicine.
We feel so overwhelmingly blessed and will be back in Bama soon enough.

Unreal florida beach trip for Alena’s 30th birthday! Didn’t hurt either that America turned 250 and USA is dominating World Cup play. We got to celebrate on the beach with a bunch of crazy kiddos and had a great time.
