I have not spoke much publicly about that passing of my friend @mikehooves Even now I struggle to put into words the feelings of loss that well up from the pit of my being and pour out of my throat and eyes at odd times.

Though it’s been just over two months, I can still hear perfectly their voice in my ears. They’d sing “Hey buddy” to me on the phone or when they arrived on my doorstep for rehearsals. It’s the exact notes of the Black-capped Chickadee. Appropriately a minor third. I won’t be able to hear that lil call without thinking of them.

The July morning they left, I was listening to the hymn “My Homeland is in the Heavens” by the Doukhobor Kootenay Choir on repeat. Certainly a coincidence to some, but when I received the text I fell to my knees and then sat at the piano for days. I was in the midst of writing my next album of which I had rambled on at length to Mike on my deck for months. They shall be present within every note of this creation.

I share this because though I knew Mike and called them “dear friend” only for a short time, they had such a profound effect on me and my creative process. Almost fifteen years my junior, age means nothing when wisdom is at play and Mike taught me to dedicate myself to my music, to defend it, live through it and share it boldly without shame.

Our co-creation, the drag and cabaret series, Drag Sings Live is just one piece of Mike’s incredible legacy and we will continue on in some way shape or form. Bryce @lockedgroove7 and I are sure of that. Thank you to the beautiful soul @wesnaimphotography for capturing Mike’s and my time on stage together. by @drag.sings

Your Hosts ⭐️ Kenna Burima and Mx Jendr⭐️

🎶 Singing: Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi and The Giver by Chappell Roan 🎶

Kenna Burima and Mx Jendr met during an @werklundcentre artist incubator and have been dynamic collaborators ever since, weaving together a practice that marries drag, singing, and piano.

Kenna Burima is a songwriter, musician, and teacher in her adopted hometown of Calgary, Alberta. After doing her time in the institutional hallowed halls of classical music education, Kenna’s love for all musical forms has driven her involvement in a diversity of projects, resulting in complex songwriting that reflects an artist never content to restrict herself to one genre or one ideal.

Wanted for crimes against the binary, Mx Jendr dazzles with an arsenal of body glitter and sharp choreo. BEWARE! This gender criminal is considered highly fabulous and is known to disorient orientation.

Introducing ⭐️ Noble Oney⭐️

🎶 Singing Too Cigarettes on Patios by BabyJake 🎶

Noble Oney hates writing bios cause no-one ever reads them. If you’re hearing this right now that means this host means BUSINESS and is probably also so talented and very hot. They also have to say anything I write here. Like fuck the PLURAL genocides happening current and literally poop on Danielle Smith and Donald trump and supremacy and colonialism.

Noble does drag as a plot to try get with your mom but it didn’t work so now I guess now he’s just trying to push for more equity in queer spaces and hot gluing shit to other shit and acting like a goof ball or political asshole to make a buck.

And no matter what anyone says you matter, you belong here and Farts are funny.
