POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Writing this is weird. Lately it’s been all really weird. But something that is keeping me going is my passion for art and music and all things fun and creative. When this was filmed I was high off of fake happiness and delusions of love on a Valentine’s Day night held at the lovely hidden gem @congresscoffeeyyc a little under a year ago.

I was asked to be the door person for this event which was a drag sings show which my dear late friend and mentor Mike Hooves hosted with the divine @kennaburima. This night was very special for complicated reasons. This was the last drag sings show I did with Mike. This was also the night I asked to sing your song by Elton John (my brother from another mother truly except my mother was an angel and unfortunately Elton’s was not). Anyway.

I’m bored writing this so you get me unfiltered.

I sang your song acapella and I don’t think I did all that bad. At the time though I was having my first real manic break as a result of the circumstances and substances and just general low maintenance of my health and spirit. I was not doing good. But looking back. I’m really proud of myself. I’m still proud of myself. Healing after trauma no matter what feels destabilizing and lonely. Sometimes you feel deep connection and other times you feel like a pebble in the ocean. You just keep sinking waiting for the floor to hit.

I keep waiting for another hit. Another explosion. Another breaking. But it hasn’t happened. Things are quiet. Things are grieving. Things are. And it’s nice to be able to share this and feel complete peace within myself. Especially because I had none of that peace in this video. But despite it all I’m still in there. And this felt like a moment the real me popped out amidst the chaos and humiliation. I word vomited all over this.

I opened the gates of my vulnerability and now I gotta close them back. It was nice chatting. I hoped you enjoyed some music.

Thank you to @noah_litke for taking this video. I asked them right before surprising the audience coming back from intermission ha ha.

Thank you to Mike for letting me sing after intermission. Miss you

I first saw Mx perform at their show Drag Sings Live, co-created with @kennaburima. I was absolutely blown away. So the next show I decided to bring my camera, something I’ve never done and was reluctant to do. It went really well and I ended up building a professional relationship with Drag Sings. It was an absolute honour to work with Mx, they helped me find my queer confidence again. Being able to document Night of 1000 Mikes is something I’ll treasure for the rest of my life. Peace, Love and Rubber Gloves ✌️❤️

I began collaborating with @queerartsyyc in the spring, around the same time I met @mx.jendr and started developing @drag.sings Being in community with a whole host of beautiful souls, many I have known almost my whole adult life, and those I have just recently fallen in love with…each one helped me become more of myself and own...nay celebrate the "too muchness" I always feared in myself. It’s wild how I always questioned the ways I loved everyone, passionately and unconditionally, though never thought to shine that same light inwards. How I contorted myself into small boxes to serve whatever system I so desperately wanted to be accepted by. And then here I find myself this weekend within a community I am infinitely proud and grateful to belong.

Tonight is show 2 of The Coming Out Monologues featuring Drag Sings Live! artist @ashtray_williams You are not going to believe what we’ve cooked up!

To quote Wilmer from @queerartsyyc, it’s raw, beautiful, and powerful storytelling on stage that will make you laugh, cry, and leave feeling a deeper connection to our shared humanity. From various cultures, backgrounds, and walks of life - these voices represent the beautiful diversity of Alberta’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
