If you’re new here, welcome to the gang! I’m a consultant dermatologist from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 We’re gonna talk a lot of skincare, travel, clothes and all things health ☀️💖 by @dramyperkins
I wish this were a Black Mirror episode. It’s not. It’s real life. Shay Mitchell has just launched Rini, a skincare and play brand aimed at children as young as three. Hydrogel masks. After-sun repair. Vitamin serums for preschoolers. All marketed as “confidence,” “creativity,” and “self-care.” But children don’t need skincare routines. They need messy play, and adults who protect them from beauty marketing that tells them their skin needs “fixing” - and those that do have problems with their skin barrier need seen by a doctor. The beauty industry has already captured teens and tweens. Now it’s creeping into childhood, normalising beauty consumerism before kids even start school. This isn’t skincare. It’s social conditioning. Let kids be kids. by @dramyperkins

Your blemish-prone skin questions, answered! A few weeks ago I hosted a live AMA on Reddit with @avene and just loved it! All these are questions I get asked by patients allll the time and they truly are the FAQs of how to manage blemish-prone skin. Remember acne is a medical condition that requires medical input, and skincare can play a really helpful role in its management. by @dramyperkins

Ready for my own version of a horror film?? Welcome to the world of sunbed marketing emails!! The sunbed industry has a lot to answer for. It is inescapable that UV radiation is a huge driving factor in the enormous rise in skin cancer cases we are seeing in dermatology clinics, and sunbed use appears to be on the rise, largely due to social media and misinformation regarding health claims. If you’ve ever used a sunbed, keep an eye on your skin - your risk of skin cancer is increased. If you’re thinking about using a sunbed, I get it. Our culture suggests that people with a tanned complexion are considered attractive, and it looks like loads of people are using sunbeds, right?!! Well, a lot of them are ending up in dermatology clinics. So,please stop thinking about sunbeds and get yourself a good fake tan instead - here I’m wearing @tanetictan_ (not an ad - just a fan!). by @dramyperkins

Part 4. Consultant Dermatologists answer: What could be triggering your eczema? 👀 @dramyperkins @drsinaghadiri @drliviasoriano @thatdermguy We asked Consultant Dermatologists about some of the triggers they commonly see in clinic, and some are much less obvious than you might think. Triggers are different for everyone, and persistent or recurrent eczema may need proper assessment. #eczema #pinkoctober #dermavengers #eczematok #contactdermatitis by @dramyperkins
When a colleague is judgemental about people on social media... Luckily we have the most comprehensive online course on social media for dermatology healthcare professionals: Beyond The Feed. 6-modules webinars available live and on demand at brightmed.co.uk Start with the free module on 12/11/26 at 6 pm. #dermatology #brightmed #socialmedia #healthmisinformation by @dramyperkins
Part 3. We asked Consultant Dermatologists one thing they wish everyone with eczema knew. 💙 @thatdermguy @drliviasoriano @dramyperkins @drsinaghadiri From finding the moisturiser that works for your skin, to recognising when eczema keeps returning in the same places, to knowing there are more treatment options than ever. Eczema can be complicated, but you don’t have to just put up with it. #eczema #PinkOctober #sensitiveskin #dermavengers #eczematok by @dramyperkins
