The Square Gallery x Nottingham Contemporary

Since June, The Square Gallery has been running monthly life drawing workshops with Nottingham Contemporary to support their exhibition 'Physical Culture' by @augustasserapinas

Led by myself and @ritaparmarart, Square Gallery committee members and the general public drew from life within given parameters and art education contexts.

And with the final workshop concluded, it marks the end of my time as Co-director of The Square Gallery - which has been an invaluable experience, learning about creative facilitation. by @drawnbyjayni

On the 3rd day of the programme, we put into action our collaborations and considerations of what makes an exhibition. Giving mock pitches of exhibitions we designed in groups, we learnt the structure that makes a good exhibition proposal from the written thought out planning to verbal communication and precise terminology. by @drawnbyjayni

CURATE DAY 2

On the 2nd day of the programme, we got an intimate insight into IKON Gallery's Angela De La Cruz Exhibition. Speaking to the curators, we learnt about the intentions of staging and the day-to-day experiences as a curator in an institution.

Considering exhibition spaces, we challenged audience navigation and architectural influence on the artwork and an audiences' experience.

We were also lucky enough to visit Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery's Collection Centre. Led by Ian Sergeant, we explored the Global Majority Collection, discussing the importance of sharing and discovering ethnic stories and the care required to go about this. Can a deeply personal story rooted in someone else's history ever really be told truthfully? by @drawnbyjayni

CURATE DAY 1

CURATE Programme '26 with New Art Exchange and Mark Devereux

Within the first day, I learnt the many hats a curator wears and the numerous types of collaboration. Curatorship is interaction with all individuals who engage with gallery spaces; from community leaders, to corporations, estates, and fundraisers to name a few.

In the afteroon we put into action collaboration, where I got to work with the other wonderful creatives of CURATE to design an imagined exhibition. We also observed from new perspectives, challenging our ideas of gallery spaces and determining how a story could be told. by @drawnbyjayni
