Yesterday was a mentally draining day & if you don’t know why, feel free to check the highlight on my story with the Star of David. I am so disappointed & saddened to see so much hate spewed in this community. No group, regardless of religious affiliation, country of origin, etc. should be harassed. Yes, this specific graphic is about antisemitism because that’s what we’ve been dealing with but I won’t tolerate hate of any kind on my page towards any group of people.

I realize I never introduced myself on here so here you go!

I’m Amanda 👋🏼

I’ve loved reading since I was a child but leisurely reading took a backseat while I was in graduate school. I rediscovered my love for books in late 2021 when I started listening to a lot of audiobooks during my one hour drive to work.

I’m a very proud Latina immigrant & grew up in Miami, Florida.

During the day I work as a neuropsychologist, & when I’m not working I spend a lot of time with my daughter, having local adventures.

Some of my other hobbies include traveling, crafting, spinning, pilates, & cooking. I love to visit small local bookshops when I travel & collect new books for my TBR list.

I’m extremely social & always happy to meet new people or make new friends, even virtually, so don’t hesitate to say hi 😊

Nobody’s Girl by Virginia Roberts Giuffre

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Release: October 2025
Read: January 2026

Goodreads rating: 4.54
Pages: 367
Audiobook: 14hrs

Genre(s): nonfiction, memoir

If you can stomach the very graphic description of child sexual abuse, rape, & other types of abuse, I highly recommend you add this book to your TBR. It’s hard to not know who Jeffrey Epstein is but just incase you’ve been living under a rock for the last 6 years… Epstein is one of the biggest monsters of my generation. He trafficked, raped, & sexually enslaved an approximated 1000 or more children & women over the course of more than 30 years. This book is the memoir of one of his most well known victims: Virginia Roberts. She recounts her early childhood & being a victim of childhood sexual abuse, & how that paved the path for a childhood full of abuse & assault, & ultimately leading her into the path of Epstein. It’s a horrific story, but such an important one.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Read: January 2026

Goodreads rating: 4.31
Pages: 304
Audiobook: 10hrs

Interesting read that follows the chaos of being on the campaign trail when you’re suddenly thrown into the ring 107 days before Election Day. The absolute tact with which Kamala describes her adversaries… what an absolute class act.

The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Release: June 2024
Read: January 2026

Goodreads rating: 3.58
Pages: 368
Audiobook: 10hrs

Genre(s): mystery, suspense

Half a star bump up for some solid twists that I do not see coming. Other than that… not bad but not exceptional either 🤷🏻‍♀️ This is my first time with Lucy Foley so I’ll definitely give some of her other more well known books a shot to see if this was just a fluke.

Pros:
- Who doesn’t love a good revenge story? Especially when it’s the 1% getting what they deserve.
- Really good twists.
- The plot line really comes together well at the end.

Con:
The characters were okay. Some intentionally hateable but the rest were unremarkable. It was really hard to fully be invested in the story because of this.

Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Release: March 2024
Read: January 2026

Goodreads rating: 4.07
Pages: 226
Audiobook: 9hrs

Genre(s): mystery, suspense

I was ready to DNF this book early on because I found Lucy (FMC) insufferable. It is rare that I change my opinions of a character from dislike to love & understanding but consider this one the golden goose egg.

Plot: Five years earlier everyone in Lucy’s small Texas hometown was certain she was the one who murdered her best friend Savannah. The problem? Lucy lost her memories from the night in question. Lucy moves to LA to start a new life where no one knows who she is. But now a true crime podcaster is digging up the past.

Pros:
- I love a good whodunnit mystery + add in a true crime subplot… *chef’s kiss*
- Ride or die besties
- Mental health representation
- Badass women
- Lucy’s grandma

Sensitive topics:
- domestic violence

Last Night in Montreal by Emily St. John Mandel

⭐️⭐️💫

Release: June 2009
Read: January 2026

Goodreads rating: 3.74
Pages: 230
Audiobook: 8hrs

Genre(s): mystery

As a big fan of Station Eleven, I was very underwhelmed by this book & was left scratching my head. So many thoughts…

1) Christopher’s obsession with Lilia is bizarre. So much concern for this stranger that he completely neglects his own daughter. Seek psychological help.

2) I can understand why Michaela is so messed up given thought #1. Poor girl.

3) Eli following Lilia to Montreal is such a stalking move. If she wanted you to find her she would have told you were she was or was going.

4) I wish we got more from Simon.

This entire book was a bizarre Gone Girl meets True Detective but much less captivating? I don’t know.

Pachinko by Min Jin Lee

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Release: February 2017
Read: January 2026

Goodreads rating: 4.34
Pages: 490
Audiobook: 18hrs

Genre(s): historical fiction, Asian literature

Amazing book. It follows the story of a family through multiple generations… beginning in 1910 with Sunja in Yeongdo, Korea, through the annexation of Korea from Japan, WWII, & the Korean division. The book ends in 1989 with Solomon, Sunja’s grandson. There’s loss, love, poverty, courage, success, racism, & everything in between. The entire plot is deeply intertwined with Japan’s colonial rule over Korea and the subsequent discrimination faced by Koreans living in Japan.

In Death series by JD Robb

This series currently has 62 books with 3 more scheduled to be released by the end of 2027. In January I read the first 4 in the series:

1. Naked in Death (1995) 5⭐️
2. Glory in Death (1995) 5⭐️
3. Immortal in Death (1996) 4⭐️
4. Rapture in Death (1996) 4⭐️

This series was recommended to me by a client & I have loved it so far!

Here’s my review for book 1:

JD Robb (aka Nora Roberts) kills it (pun intended) in the first book (1995) of her In Death series, which is up to 63 books & counting! We are introduced to Lt. Eve Dallas of NYPD in the year 2058 as she investigates a serial killer who preys on sex workers, which is legal & well regulated (love that!). & let’s not forget a standing ovation for Roarke… a sexy Irish gentleman who loves with his whole heart.

To think that a book published 30+ years ago really foretold the direction the US is heading & I wouldn’t be surprised if in 30 years some of the nonsense cultish political BS that happens in this book actually happens.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Release: April 2022
Read: October 2025

Goodreads rating: 4.27
Pages: 329
Audiobook: 10hrs

Genre(s): thriller, mystery

The entire first half of the book I was having Deja vu & then I got to part two & realized why… This book is a cross between The Next Mrs. Parrish and Hidden Pictures. Not bad. Not amazing. However, I did like the ending.

Storm Front by Jim Butcher

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Release: April 2021
Read: January 2026

Goodreads rating: 3.97
Pages: 372
Audiobook: 8hrs

Genre(s): fantasy, sci-fi

The graphic audio is definitely the way to go with this book! It’s like a little movie playing in your head. This is the first book in the Dresden Files series, which was published in 2000. The series has 17 novels in total.

The series follows Harry Dresden, a PI/Wizard in Chicago. There’s mystery, fantasy, & comedy. Can’t wait to continue with the series!
