I don’t share every event I’m part of, but this one feels different.
The Welcome Home Experience was created for the woman who has learned how to achieve, lead, show up, and keep going—but is ready to stop living from survival mode.

I’ll be speaking alongside women who are addressing the conversations so many successful women rarely get space to have about identity, healing, confidence, visibility, leadership, femininity, brand, and most importantly becoming.

And this isn’t about walking away with a notebook full of inspiration you never use.  It’s about walking away with greater clarity, stronger self-trust, meaningful connections, practical tools, and a deeper relationship with the woman behind the success.

If you’ve been craving a room where you don’t have to perform, prove, or carry everything alone, this is your invitation to join us on August 29th.

And if you’re a part of my network DM me SISTER for an additional 20% off.

Secure your seat before the room fills at www.cocooncommunity.ca

I want to thank the Registered Nursing Association of Ontario, Durham Chapter, for hosting a screening of Silent Voices in honour of Black History Month. It was an incredible evening where the community engaged in a meaningful, and solution centred discourse; identifying how nurses can inform change, act as advocates, and serve as architects of influence for members of the Black community.

The conversation left me inspired and hopeful. It reinforced that meaningful change is possible when faculty, leaders, and policymakers work with intention and commit to challenging systems that have historically and persistently perpetuated harm. As nurses, frontline workers, and professionals, our role extends beyond care delivery and policymaking. It is about being intentional in shaping narratives that allow for healing to take place and transformation to occur. by @drcgarvey

Silent Voices is more than a documentary. It is an extension of my work as a nurse, researcher, and scholar, and a reflection on what it means to practice with intention, accountability, and purpose.
Silent Voices reflects what it means for us as advocates to hold space, share stories, and understand positionality. It is about praxis, the intentional application of knowledge, experience, and ethical responsibility to shift how care is understood and delivered. The stories within Silent Voices remind us that lived experience is knowledge, that community voice is evidence, and that healing requires cultural courage and cultural care.
This work affirms that nurses are not only clinicians. We are leaders, advocates, and architects of influence. We shape what care and support look like in meaningful ways. We contribute to how systems respond, how communities are engaged, and how trust is built, particularly within Black and racialized communities whose experiences have too often been misunderstood, minimized, or silenced.
Through intentional reflection and community discourse, I have come to understand that Silent Voices functions as a mediator for praxis. It challenges us to engage in emancipatory and personal ways of knowing that guide our practice and scholarship. It calls us to recognize the power of narrative and to see how intentional storytelling can inform education, research, and client care. It reminds us that our role is not simply to respond to health needs, but to help create the conditions where communities feel seen, supported, and safe.
When we honour stories, we honour humanity. When we listen with intention, we create space for healing. And when nursing is grounded in cultural care, relational accountability, and community partnership, we move beyond practice into transformation.
Thank you to the Canadian Black Screen Awards and the Black Actors Film Guild Canada for recognizing the hard work of the cast and crew of Silent Voices - Nate, Vance, Liberty, RJ, Dr. Williamson, Dr Akwatu, Kwasi, Mitch, and Marti. With great humility, we are deeply grateful#mentalhealth #blackmentalhealth #silentvoices #mentalhealthawareness by @drcgarvey

The past 24 hours have been a time of deep reflection. Who would have known that listening to my heart and creating something intended to uplift the community, educate, and emphasize the importance of caring for our mental health would be recognized not with one, but two national awards.

Words cannot fully express my appreciation, gratitude, and above all, humility in receiving such recognition. This work was never about accolades. This work was about telling the truth, empowering our community, and, above all, initiating healing.

To the cast, Dr. Akwatu, Dr. Williamson, Kwasi, Hardway, Tasha, and Liberty Silver, thank you for trusting me with your stories and allowing your voices to be shared with care and intention. To Nate, Mitch, and Vance, thank you for believing in this work and helping bring it to life with your remarkable skills and talent.

This journey continues to affirm that mental health impacts us all and is not an issue confined to one community or one diaspora. This project stands as evidence of what is possible when we come together as a community to be the voice of change, to create impact, to empower, and to challenge narratives shaped by stigma, stereotypes, and silencing.

No longer will silent voices remain silent. Our voices will be amplified, our voices will be united, and together they will come into unison to reshape our communities into spaces of safety, security, and, above all, healing for those who have suffered in silence. @vance.mckenzie @nathanielballantyne @mitchellverigin @officiallyhardwayy @libertysilvertrust #mentalhealth #blackmentalhealth #documentary #silentvoices by @drcgarvey

On November 29, I had the privilege and honor of humbly delivering the year end keynote for the Urban Pilot Professional Network. I also want to take the time to acknowledge and thank the organizers and leaders of UPPN for recognizing that mental health is health and, more importantly, for creating space to begin these critical conversations within the aviation community. Mental health remains a topic among aviators that rarely speaks about because of the , with real world consequences for speaking openly. Thank you UPPN’s leadership in shifting this narrative is both necessary and courageous. It was truly a remarkable experience to be in a room filled with aviation professionals who are shaping the present and future of the industry.

Among the attendees was the one and Zoey Williams, the first Black female pilot to fly the 777 in Canada. This marked a historic and groundbreaking moment in aviation. Being present among such trailblazers is such an honour.

To my surprise, I was also presented with an award recognizing my community commitment, passion for advocacy, and ongoing dedication to mental health research, awareness, support, and education. I did not expect this recognition, and I am sincerely humbled by it.

Thank you to the Urban Pilot Professional Network for this unexpected honor and for being trailblazers and change agents who are helping to change the narrative around mental health, build community, and advance equity within aviation and beyond.

I had the privilege of presenting my research at the APHA anti-racism pre-conference at Georgetown University where leaders, scholars, and community advocates came together in powerful collaboration. The energy in the room reflected a shared commitment to advancing equity, building community, and pushing for meaningful systemic change.
A defining moment was attending the gala and having meaningful conversations from Virginia Allen, one of the renowned Black Angels, whose powerful reflections on dismantling systemic racism through her lived experience not only advanced social justice but grounded the room in truth, history, and purpose. Our conversation reminded me that intentionality is essential. We must each use our voice, our platform, and our practice to be part of the change. #APHA #community #bethechange by @drcgarvey
