Season 3 begins with a different question.

Not what’s wrong with your relationship — but which part of you shows up when things get hard.

New season. New conversations.

Episode 301 drops tomorrow. taken in New York City by @drdarcysterling

You sit down for one drink.

And five minutes later, you’re already assessing.

Could I marry this person?
What’s wrong with them?
What am I missing?
Is that a red flag?

The date stops being a date.

It becomes an evaluation.

And the faster you search for a reason to rule someone out, the less room there is for the person in front of you to become anything you didn’t predict.

Your partner seems to think about sex out of nowhere.

You don’t.

And somewhere along the way, you start wondering whether something is wrong with you.

But desire does not show up the same way for everyone.

For some women, wanting sex begins after something creates the conditions for desire—not before.

And if that has changed in midlife, it matters to understand what changed before you turn it into a verdict about yourself or your relationship.

You go to every game.

Every school play.
You care about every grade.
You want your child to succeed.

That is not bad parenting.

But when achievement starts carrying too much weight, your child can begin to hear something you never meant to say:

I matter more when I do well.

You can love your partner deeply and still lose attraction when the relationship starts feeling like supervision.

You remind.
You monitor.
You prevent the next mess.

And eventually, you stop relating to them as another adult who can carry themselves.

They may mean well.

They may feel awful every time something falls through the cracks.

But good intentions do not erase the impact on you.

You are thoughtful with strangers.

You watch your tone.
You say thank you.
You pay attention.

Then you get home and relax around the person you love most.

And sometimes that relaxation turns into carelessness.

Not because you do not care.

Because you stop noticing how much the small moments matter.

Your partner looks calm.

You feel like they do not care.

They are quiet.
Controlled.
Maybe even completely composed.

And to you, that can feel worse than anger.

Because calm can look like:

You are checked out.
You do not care.
This does not matter to you.

But what looks calm on the outside may not be calm on the inside.

Maybe they’re scared.

Maybe they’ve been hurt.
Maybe closeness is hard for them.
Maybe they really do need more time.

And some of that may even be true.

But understanding why someone cannot give you what you need can make it much harder to look at what the relationship is actually giving you.

You start studying them.
Explaining them.

Waiting for the reason to become the thing that finally changes the relationship.

Your sex life is rarely just about sex.

Desire, resentment, emotional safety, communication, feeling seen—or not feeling seen—can all make their way into the bedroom.

Dr. Darcy Sterling breaks down why what’s happening between the sheets can tell you a whole lot about what’s happening everywhere else.

You can know exactly why you do what you do… and still keep doing it. 👀

You can recognize the pattern.
Name the trigger.
Understand where it came from.
Explain it beautifully in therapy.

And still repeat the same damn cycle.

Insight is important—but insight alone doesn’t change your marriage, your reactions, your communication, or your life.

At some point, knowing better has to become doing something differently.

Dr. Darcy Sterling said it perfectly: awareness is the beginning. The work is what you do next. @drdarcysterling
