2002-2004 dreadlock throwback right here 🤘 OH HOW FAR WE HAVE COME in just a short period of time! crocheting dreadlocks is a VERY modern technique. it wasn’t even a thing back then & these LEGIT are the kinds of stories almost all of my og clients used to tell me. some were hilarious, like starting their locks in the passenger seat of a car only using the side view mirror or tying them in wire to get them to stay or using wood or surf wax instead of beeswax or just beeswax 😬 . but i learned so so much on those wildly beautiful freeformed heads, my own included, and from all their stories they shared of what their best friend’s brother’s girlfriend’s cousin told them they should do 😆. it’s how i learned the intricacies of knots in hair and how to work with them and why i respect everyone’s journey for exactly what it is, their own. and all of that combined is why i have & always will dreaducate my clients & online fam. and if you are a dreadlock artist please continue to work with other artists, invest in furthering your education with others in the industry that you feel drawn towards. bc if this is how far we have come in the last 17 years… i am stoked to experience and be a part of whatever is to unfold.✨and as always PROPS TO THE FREEFOMERS who came before us & those that still keep it completely natural and knotty 🤘 you guys are the real MVP’s 🫶

proof of life & hair growth update 🌱 this week marks 2 years without my dreadlocks! two freakin years!!!! what is time? but honestly this is the first time within that time i am feeling more comfortable and confident with this hair of mine. its been a wild experience growing my hair in and i have been learning so much about myself through this process and i will share some of that soon on my journey page. for now i’ll share this… yes the plan is to still freeform new locs. im ALMOST ready to start again and thinking i’ll be ready by the autumn time 🍂. iand it will need to be for me id like a little more length in my top layers and i want to experience my hair a little more & become more fluent with it. i believe the more i deepen my relationship with my hair now it will directly effect the relationship i create with my locs as they begin to form and grow ✨ and its really freakin rad to know that most of this hair you see in this video will be my natural dreadlocks one day ✨for now i am still conditioning my hair (curls need moisture!) so it will def be conscious decision to stop using conditioner to get my hair to start naturally knotting) i also pla on keeping the bangs, first timein my life im loving bangs (thanks @kutsbykass 💞) and i’m planning on having some fun with some synthetic dread extensions this summer too actually currently sitting in @makemedreadful chair right now getting a sick set installed… will def share that soon too!) ive said my journey was a 20 year experiment and this part is simply another extension of that. hope you are well friends… ttys! taken in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by @dreadloxoxo

the sweetest 🌈 on this chilly 🌧️ morning! i feel so grateful to be working with mary and her gorgeous locs for the second time. these locs have been around for over 20 years, possibly 25 at this point! the last time i saw them, mary had just stopped bleaching and was letting them go natural. it’s incredible to see that timeline in her hair and how healthy and strong they’re growing. mary and i have connected in so many beautiful ways over the last few years outside of the studio, and i’m so grateful to have her in my life. can’t wait to share more dancefloors and memories with you sweet sister, love you so much!

jose is one of my og clients who only gets maintenance on his natural dreadlocks every few years simply to check in and make sure his scalp and hair feel healthy & for some self love time. it’s been an honor to watch these locs grow more and more beautiful over the years. i’ll see if i can find some old posts about his hair and put them in my stories today! regardless i hope you find inspiration in the longer journeys i so gratefully i get to share with you! thanks for being here. have a beautiful day ✌️🧡🌞
