The TRUTH about dreadlocks 🩵🐚✨ You want me to be honest? I absolutely love… L O V E my dreadlocks but it’s no secret I haven’t always felt this way.. honestly, dreadlocks are the embodiment of COMMITMENT!! When I tell you guys it’s a journey I seriously mean it!! Exposing my worst stages!!

Truth: it’s a journey: you’re not always going to love them or like them. Some times you’re going to wonder why the HECK you did this and want to brush them all out.. you’re going to want to change them, and it’s so much harder to change your hair when it’s dreaded. BUT ITS A COMMITMENT!! You’ve just gots ta see it thru ma boiiii!! You’ve got to stick with it. Watching them grow and change over the years can be very difficult but soooo freaking rewarding that it’s worth it & JUST LIKE THE MOON You’re GOING TO GO THROUGH PHASES!! 🌘🌝🌚

Everything changes when they mature, the same as you! You have to give them the time they deserve. You can see how thin, and brittle they were. Seriously I mean look at the difference. Look at what TIME can do for your dreads. 🩵

Sometimes they hold you back. I’m just gonna be honest they really do. I try not to let them but it’s just the truth. Sometimes I want to try the new hairstyles I see videos of on TikTok and IG, sumX I wanna swim and not have to dry my hair for hours. SumX I just wanna put my hair up in a bun and not realize my hair is in a bun. I don’t wanna feel like a bobble head. You can’t go to your hair girl you’ve gone to for years anymore because you can’t trust them to touch your dreads and they turn you into a complete weirdo😂

Social media does a great job of making it seem like it’s less than what it is. Like you can just walk right in and walk out with the hair of your dreams. It’s unrealistic to believe that’s how your journey will start. & for those who were able to start with beautiful dreadlocks I think it’s pretty unfair to get to be so lucky you get to skip the ugly phase 😂

Your journey will be successful if you stay open to the journey and accept the things you cannot change. You’re not in control - and there is something so beautiful and powerful behind that.

Allow me to recap. November 2023 Ashley came into us to get what we called her Dream hair, something she had been wanting for 20 years and unfortunately got pushed away from other artist before finding us 🥰
Talk about Fate

Fast Forward ⏩ to this past October.
She was back for more!
Bigger and Better than ever!
A Patrial to a Full head!
Ashley removed her old extensions for a fresh start which allowed Crissa and I to create this absolutely stunning, long, wavy and layered installation.

This is by far one of my favorites.

There’s so much ick going on in the world right now. It hurts my heart, and I kind of feel silly posting this. But so many hands went into this beautiful art I wear every day, I want to acknowledge that. Today is my 1 year since we started my dreads. I love them so much and they have taught me so much, effecting me on not just a physical level, but a deeper energetic, spiritual level. My story is unique in that I had so many amazing souls help me with this process, and I’m so grateful. Here are some shots from that day. Final installment of this whimsical, fairytale shoot...
After spending the first 20 years of our 30 years avoiding the camera due to low self-esteemes, we realize how wrong that was to do to our children. So, we are creating "better late than never" legacy shots for them now. It's still an angst ridden process for us, but we are really trying to break the cycle of feeding our insecurities in hopes the strength we find invokes confidence in our 3 heartbeats 💙💜💙, and illustrates that anytime is the right time to self correct and be better! I mean, 'progress', right?
Thank you everyone who contributed to the success of this shoot and making my wild & quirky little vision a reality, especially for our grand Kennedy 🥰
