“50 patterns, 50 states” - linoleum block carvings and black relief ink printed on paper, 5”x5”, created by me, 05/26

guys… i spent 25 hours on carving alone for this project… 🫩 in total, about 35 hours to create this little book. i could not be more proud of myself for finishing something that i really enjoyed creating. quilting has my <3 forever and always.

because of this, i decided im also going to major in printmaking (sorry marcus), so stay tuned. what a fun little semester it has been. manifest good health for my mind and my hands next semester pls. by @drewsartstudio

“the eyes of a regular” - 35 mm film prints on mat board, 11” x14”, shot and printed by me, 05/26

i faced many trials and tribulations while taking this class (6 blank rolls of film, a broken light meter, $100 in film, way too many espresso shots) but oh my god, i did it. the most challenging but deeply rewarding class i’ve ever taken.

my goal for this project was to photograph the kindest and sweetest baristas at my favorite springfield coffee shops. the amount of times i visited them through the past 4 months is deeply concerning. they made me the tastiest drinks, were the nicest people in the world, and didn’t yell at me for taking their photos. i <3 springfield baristas. by @drewsartstudio

“people in places” - 35 mm film in print, 5” x 7”, created by me, 03/26

analog photography is one of the most rewarding but challenging classes i have taken to date. but ultimately SO much fun. here’s some portraits of people during my numerous coffee shop study visits, and during my chicago trip!

for our second project we were tasked with trying to emulate the style of another photographer, and i was given mark steinmetz. through him, i learned my love for street photography, and our mutual love for chicago <3 by @drewsartstudio

“belonging(s)” - risograph prints on paper, 11” x 17”, created by me, 03/26

this is my absolute favorite project to date!!! risograph prints are so much fun, and so is documenting the silly little things in lesbians bags. not only did this project help me find my creative drive again, it also landed me my first showing in a gallery space <3

@jllongtraders generously hosted my work for april’s first friday art walk, which doesn’t even feel real. this semester has been SO challenging, but even so, my joy and whimsy has persisted. eternally grateful to share my art with people.

“…pussy” - screen print on paper, 11” x17”, created by me, 03/26

printmaking is so silly but also presents me with many trials and tribulations. this print made me cry out of frustration 3 times 😁 but anyway, here’s my cat learning about lesbianism

“wuh luh wuh” - hand dyed cotton underwear, machine sewed and quilted, 2’ x 3’, created by me, 02/26

this masters class is kicking my ass <3 and so is this semester, but i love the creative freedom i have with my exhibition proposal. enjoy this lesbian flag ❤️🧡🤍🩷💜

to finish off the semester, here’s some close ups of mugs and bowls from my ceramics I class!!!

this was truly the most challenging class i’ve ever taken, but also the most rewarding. i <3 ceramics, and i can’t wait to take it again next semester!

ps. i <3 kevin hughes for taking these photos and being such a great professor #artstudent #ceramics #bowlsandmugs by @drewsartstudio

“weighted blanket” - cold rolled steel, handmade galvanized steel jump rings, aluminum chain, key rings, 45” x 27”, created by me, 12/25.

this is my favorite project i’ve made in school so far <3 i’ve been really exploring quilting and its ties to femininity, as it’s a craft that’s followed the women in my family for generations. for decades, quilting has been regarded as “women’s work” and was viewed as a nonsensical hobby for women to pursue. alternatively, metal working and sculpture is often viewed as “men’s work” and is a heavily male-dominated field.

not only was my sculpture professor a woman, but 85% of my classmates were women. my goal was to challenge our society’s view of women’s capabilities in unconventional fields. what better way to do that than with a medium so near and dear to my heart? this project was SO much fun, and challenged me in ways that i didn’t even think were possible. stay tuned for more quilting endeavors next semester, but this is a wrap on sculpture!

“to grow pt.2” - hand cut wood, hand glued, with espresso wood stain, 18”h x 12”l x 2”w, created by me, 11/25.

this sculpture is a continuation of conceptulizing a verb and giving it a 3-D form. I honestly really love how this sculpture came out, the staggering of the pieces was a lot of fun to figure out, and i like the movement it illustrates. i do however hate the wood stain :( it came out way darker than i anticipated, but you live and you learn.

“8647” - hand carved linoleum block and ink on paper, 13” x 13”, created by me, 11/25.

for my last print we were challenged to use 3 colors, and this print was inspired by my ever growing hatred for donald trump <3 since the current political climate is awful, i may as well use my creative mind to giggle about it. this felt like the perfect way to end my semester in this class (peep the sketch that i’d love to make digital prints of at the end)

on a serious note this process was super fun, and i loved printmaking so much im taking another class next semester. i’m excited to see what i’ll be learning and sharing with you all!!

“quilt block study” - hand carved linoleum block and ink on paper, 13” x 16”, created by me, 10/25

last print post for now, but let me just say, i love linocut!!! i love a repetitive task and linocutting scratches that itch. messing around with quilt patterns is healing my soul. by @drewsartstudio

“quilt of my soul” - acid etched copper plate and ink, printed on paper, 13” x 16”, created by me, 09/25

another cute little print from class, inspired by my favorite quote from adventure time <3 also inspired by my new fascination with quilting and patterning. i love this one so much. happy to be creating things that bring me so much joy (this process was kind of hell tho) by @drewsartstudio
