My heart is now three sizes too big.

It is with immense pride and gratitude that I thank the hundreds of creatives, organizers, and visionaries who continue to propel our scene into the future with the best of intentions, glowing with hope. You are all so incredible.

From everyone involved with @astroclubartistfacility , @astroartsfestival , generous sponsors, and to the homies at @never.grow.up.graff.jam , your collective prowess continues to astound our city.

A huge thank you to Carol McGrath at @citynewsvan @rogers for seeing the power in what we are doing and for spending the summer with us. This piece is giving all of us immense visibility at a time when our creative community needs it dearly.

It’s an honour to share this piece with @zen1sm , @mazie.str and their team at @never.grow.up.graff.jam , who carry that same belief in elevating artists, amplifying their voices, and creating opportunities for them to thrive.

There is so much power in what we can build together. Thank you to everyone who keeps showing up, creating, organizing, supporting, and believing in what comes next.

And all my love to Steff Love, my brave business bub

The Banshee's Snare
Collage/acrylic/aerosol/oil
60x36
2026

Decided to pull out some reference materials from the my mural, 'Snared Within the Banshee's Nest', back in 2023 and bring it to life in the studio. I wanted to push it further than what was on the wall and integrate some classic screen prints I made years ago, wash it with aerosols, and go hard in the oils.

It differs from the mural in a lot of ways, particularly with more delicate gestures, abstract shapes/rhythms and not being guided by site-specificity as the initial mural composition was.

The mural is now gone and with @trystan.cutts fresh mural taking it's place for @astroartsfestival Feels good to pass the torch with to another talented man for Western Canada's only living mural gallery.

Another @astroartsfestival in the bag with Co-owner and work wife Steff Love upon this thousand-oared ship we built with the bottomless pit of energy and drive - Vancouver's art community.

Thank you to everyone who showed, threw down on walls large and small, shared the project online, and came in to support in all shapes with total compassion and grace. This is still very much a total labour of love, and you see that with 10/10 clarity. I love you all so much, my heart aches.

I will be posting more words and captures soon, but I want you to know you're all so awesome ❤️

Smooches to your bouches,

D.

We’re so back it hurts.

@Astroartsfestival is beyond proud to once again host the legendary 100 Amigos Exhibition, created by Vancouver art and fashion icon @pabloz74.

Curated by @pabloz74 @douglascoupland and @drewstuff, with guest curator @instagraemeberglund , the exhibition brings together some of Vancouver's most beloved visual artists from all corners of its creative communities.

VIP PREVIEW:
Aug 7 | 6–8 PM
Tickets available at @astroarts.ca

Doors open to the public from 8 PM–1 AM. Last year, over 1,000 people flooded the streets for opening night, so come early. We've even shut down the block for the weekend to make room for the spectacle, with music from @pabloz74 and @hubbz.

To top it off, we're honoured to have @tierneymilne and @photoautomata transform the entire front of Astro into a massive projection-mapped experience for the evening.

Can't make opening night? The exhibition continues throughout the festival:

Aug 8: 12–10 PM
Aug 9: 12–7 PM

While you're here, catch our block party, mural reveals, Astro Alley mural/graffiti/street art jam, artisan market, select open studios, block-wide beer garden, and DJ sets.

Tell your family, friends, felines, and foes—the show of the year is almost here.
