Most health protocols begin with sleep, exercise, nutrition, stress, or recovery.

But there’s one system that is still too often left out of the conversation:

The mouth.

Where does oral health fit into the protocol?

Last night, I had the chance to see Andrew Huberman at Radio City with my friend Arthur, whom I’ve known for nearly 20 years.

What has always interested me about Huberman’s work is not simply the topics he covers—sleep, stress, performance, behavior, longevity—but the way he approaches them: understand the mechanism first, then determine how that knowledge can be translated into something practical.

That framework feels increasingly relevant to dentistry.

We talk about protocols for sleep.
Protocols for metabolic health.
Protocols for exercise, recovery, cognition, and longevity.

But the mouth is still too often treated as if it exists in its own silo.

It doesn’t.

Oral inflammation, the microbiome, airway and breathing, sleep, TMJ function, muscle activity, nutrition, and restorative health all interact with the larger biological system.

After more than 20 years in prosthodontics, I find myself increasingly interested not only in how we restore teeth—but in what the mouth can tell us about the health and function of the person attached to them.

That is the direction I want to keep pushing.

It is also the thinking behind much of what I’m developing for 2027: Beso™, ORIGIN™, and Oral Intelligence.

Three very different projects, but all built around the same question:

How do we move oral health from an isolated specialty into the broader conversation about healthspan, prevention, performance, and longevity?

I don’t think the future of dentistry is simply about doing today’s dentistry better.

I think it is about expanding what we believe dentistry is responsible for understanding.

Last night was a great reminder to keep asking bigger questions.

And maybe the next generation of health protocols needs to start with one more:

There are moments in your career when you realize you’re not just learning something new—you’re stepping into territory your profession has barely begun to explore.

This week, I completed the advanced certification course in peptide and cellular medicine through SSRP, a leading program in mechanism-first education focused on the biology and science behind emerging regenerative therapies.

Nearly 1,000 professionals from around the world attended.

I was the only dentist in the room.

When I checked in, I was asked what “DMD” meant. When I explained that I was a dentist, the woman registering me smiled and asked:

“What does it feel like to be a trailblazer?”

My answer was simple: I’ve always looked for ways to advance patient care when there is credible science, sound biological rationale, and evidence behind it.

For more than 20 years, my approach to dentistry has gone beyond individual teeth—focusing on occlusion, TMJ function, muscle physiology, inflammation, healing, and the connection between oral and systemic health.

Peptide therapy feels like a natural extension of that philosophy.

I am now beginning to incorporate peptide therapy into my practice through evidence-informed clinical protocols designed specifically around dental and craniofacial applications—including healing, tissue support, inflammation, musculoskeletal recovery, and complex TMJ-related conditions.

Not as a replacement for established treatment.

Not as a shortcut.

But as another biologically driven tool that may complement the way we already approach complex care.

Being the only dentist in a room of nearly 1,000 professionals didn’t make me feel out of place.

It made me feel like I was exactly where I needed to be.

The future of dentistry will not be confined to teeth.

And I intend to be part of defining what comes next. taken in Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort by @drgulizio

At Core Smiles, we've spent years watching dentistry evolve from drill-and-fill to something far more sophisticated. Today, we're introducing the next chapter: peptide therapy — precision molecular signaling that works with your biology, not around it.
We're not talking about remineralization alone.

We're talking about periodontal health without antibiotics. TMJ and myofascial pain addressed at the tissue level. Bone regeneration. Sleep and bruxism with a root-cause approach. Oral inflammation driven by NF-kB pathway inhibition.

As Dr. Gulizio completes his certification in peptide therapy, Core Smiles patients will be among the first in the country to access these protocols in a dental setting — compounded to USP <797> standards, evidence-backed, and individualized.

Over the next several weeks, we'll be educating our community on every peptide we use, how it works, and why it matters.

Follow along. Your oral health is systemic health.

Mother’s Day just feels different now.

Every year, I go back through old photos of you, looking for ones I haven’t seen in a while. And somehow, it gets a little harder each time—not because I’m forgetting, but because I’ve already gone through so many of them. There are fewer “new” memories to stumble across.

But the funny thing is, I don’t really need the photos.

I see you in little things all the time—in moments, in habits, in the way I think or react. You’re still so present, just in a different way.

I miss you more than I can explain, but I carry you with me every day.

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom 😘😘😘 by @drgulizio

Last week I went for my teeth check up with my dental school classmate, longtime friend, and collaborator, Dr. Michael Gulizio @drgulizio at Core Smiles @coresmiles Always nice to catch up. We discuss treatment plans during the visit — it’s what happens when two dentists get together. His hygienist was great.
Quick reminder: if you’re in orthodontic treatment, don’t skip your cleanings. Healthier gums mean smoother tooth movement, and small problems are easier to catch early. During active treatment, every 3–4 months is ideal.

If you’re overdue—put it on the calendar. Small habit, big difference. taken in Karpov Orthodontics by @drgulizio
