Happy Absinthe Day!! Today is a celebration of the repeal of the 95 year ban on Absinthe, finally lifted on March 5th, 2007. Thanks to the work of scientist @t.a.breaux and the sharp team at Viridian Spirits, we have been able to legally enjoy delicious traditional absinthe in the US for 19 years!

What should you know about traditional absinthe? Let's break it down in 6 quick facts!

Traditional absinthe...
1. Is distilled with Artemisia Absinthium.
2. Is free from artificial colors.
3. Is free from artificial flavors and star anise.
4. Is free from added sugar.
5. Does not provide hallucinogenic effects.
6. Is not served on fire.

Not sure if the absinthe you're looking at is traditionally produced? Do a quick search for reviews from Wormwood Society, @adriennelavey, or in r/absinthe - or reach out and I'll do my best to help!

What are your favorite traditional absinthe brands?

Sometimes a partnership comes together in a pretty perfect way.

SAFE Bar Network team member Darian Everding @drinkingwithdarian recently competed on Cocktail Wars, sponsored by @brownforman. To mark the moment, the community gathered for a watch party where @fordsgin helped make the celebration even more memorable.

It was a fantastic night, but it also represents something much bigger.

Across Iowa, our growing SAFE Bar Network community is made up of venues committed to creating safer, more welcoming experiences for guests and hospitality teams. Each one plays a role in building environments where people can enjoy great nights out with confidence.

We’re proud to partner with Brown‑Forman to support the people behind those experiences—equipping hospitality teams with practical skills to prevent overconsumption and harassment, recognize when something feels off, and step in before a situation escalates.

Congratulations to Darian, and thank you to Fords Gin and Brown‑Forman for helping us celebrate.

Behind every great night are people looking out for each other.

If you have the ability, run to the @nelsonatkins Timeless Mucha exhibit.

Mucha is one of my all-time favorite artists. This exhibit, featuring many items from his family's collection, shows the staggering span of a career that Mucha had.

It was breathtaking to see original sketches, vases used for reference, and some of the pieces I have so admired!

Truly, do yourself a favor and get to Kansas City to give it a proper perusal. Elsewhere, in the permanent collection, are several other Mucha and art nouveau pieces, so make sure to see those as well! 🥰 taken in The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art by @drinkingwithdarian

Today is my 10 year anniversary celebration at @theundergroundames!

I've got all sorts of tasty treats! Several cakes from Dutch Oven and a big batch of Absinthe + OJ shots (feat. @lucid_absinthe).

I couldn't possibly thank all of the folks deserving recognition in one post. Know that I am so grateful and so appreciative of every day I've had to live, learn, love, and grow with you all.

Cheers!

I poured my first drink at @theundergroundames on July 14th, 2016. In the blink of an eye, here we are 10 years later!

Many folks never get the opportunity to enjoy a work home for a decade and I am grateful to take some time to celebrate this milestone with you all <3

I'd love to see friendly faces, swap stories, and resurrect some of my favorite cocktails from throughout the years! I'm putting together a little highlight reel menu and am excited to share it with you <3

Brands, if you'd like to pitch in to share some tasty bevvies with the Ames community, my inbox is open :)

As always, I'll be slinging some epic absinthe cocktails (have you tried a @lucid_absinthe & OJ shot yet?), serving the freshest popcorn, and chatting the day away.

See you in the pub sometime soon 💚 taken in London Underground by @drinkingwithdarian
