I’ve had so many doctors reach out wanting to share what they witnessed in Gaza. There’s so much to document, so I thought I’d start sharing some shorter stories here too, alongside the longer newsletter interviews.

Doctor Taj is 26.

When Dr Saira Hussain arrived in Gaza, he was still in his internship. He wanted to specialise in obstetrics and gynaecology.

Like many junior doctors and medical students in Gaza, his training had been suspended. Instead, he was working shifts in emergency departments and field hospitals, unpaid, wherever he was needed.

Every morning he would meet Dr Saira and ask the same question:

“Where would you like to work today?”

Sometimes she would joke with him.
“Let’s not go to work today. Let’s go to the beach. Let’s go to the markets. Let’s visit your family.”

But of course, they couldn’t.

They would share a peanut butter protein bar for breakfast and then go to the hospital.

No one has heard from Taj since April, when he returned to the north to find his family.

For Taj, and for the healthcare workers in Gaza who continue showing up every day to treat patients under impossible conditions.

We have dreams that feel too big, but also faith that they are obtainable. We just paid the first instalment of first semester fees & now we have to move towards the next big hurdle, and it’s quite a lot. We have more students & they are farther along in their studies which means it’s more expensive. But we can do it, right? I truly challenge you not only to donate, but to set a personal goal & ask friends to contribute. Something simple: I want to raise $200 for the healthcare students. Or whatever makes sense in your social group. I know there are people out there that can do this one small thing. Let’s do this together. ♥️ my personal goal, and by that, I mean from my irl world, people who don’t even know I run this account, is $300. Why about you? by @drinsaine

❤️🖤It was an honour to sit and talk to you last night, Dr. Saira. In ‘The Weight of Witness,’ Dr Saira Hussain recounts her time volunteering at Nasser Hospital in Gaza, where mass casualties, scarce resources and relentless airstrikes became part of daily life.

After a man died on the operating table, she writes: “We all muttered Allah yerhamo – may Allah have mercy on him. Then we wheeled in the next patient.”

She describes improvising with damaged equipment “so we could put a burnt child on a life-support machine”, while the hospital staircase became “a living, breathing human chain” of patients and displaced families.

The weight of witness is carried by the doctors who return to the operating theatre, who keep fighting for every life despite exhaustion, grief and impossible circumstances. Their efforts are an extraordinary testament to human resilience and the sacred duty of caring for others when the world around them is falling apart. Urgent appeal to help keep the Gaza swimming lessons going!

4 days left before lessons are suspended due to lack of funds 💔

5,800+ children have learned swimming since June 2026.

Our plan was to keep the lessons going until end of November hitting our target of 10,000 children.

An additional 1000+ children have joined the lessons so far during October

But now funding shortages threaten to cut our lessons short! 💔

We need to push for real, sustainable aid to enter Gaza. Until then, we need to fill in the gaps. This abandonment after intense loss is far beyond psychological torment for Gazans. by @drinsaine

Sidal was 7 years old and asleep with her parents and two brothers in a safe zone when she was murdered by an Israeli bombardment. The plastic shelters offered no protection to people forced to move there.
This portrait is made with names of other innocent 7 year old children murdered by Israel and its allies. The portrait is made with the intent to change minds. It is part of my anti genocide exhibition ‘Shame’ to be shown in London in December. All profit from which will be donated to organisations working in the area.
The work is made with love, not hate.
