The story of every HIMALAYA starts long before it enters our workshop.

Last week, two original Land Rover Series IIA donor vehicles arrived in Charleston, each carrying decades of history with them.

Finding these vehicles is one of our favorite parts of the process. Hidden away in barns, garages, and fields across the country, every Land Rover has a story worth preserving.

The first is a beautifully preserved 1968 Series IIA that has remained in a single family since new. The original green patina is simply too good to cover up, so rather than repainting it, we’ll preserve every ounce of its character while giving it a new life for the road ahead.

The second is a Poppy Red Series IIA that’s on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. Structurally, time has taken its toll and it will require an entirely new foundation, but the weathered red paint against the exposed aluminum has created a fascinating patina that deserves to live on in its next chapter.

This is where every HIMALAYA begins.

Not with a blank canvas, but with pieces of automotive history waiting to be reimagined.

We aren’t here to follow trends.

We are here to keep Classic Land Rovers on the road truly being DRIVEN and enjoyed for many years to come.

We are here to create a generational product.

A Classic Land Rover that will be passed down from generation to generation, keeping the memories alive that were made in them.

Analog switches, soft leather, the feel of the billet shifter as you prepare to take off - all bringing you back to your favorite memories from years and years of driving.

Details we love about the Series IIA:

The essence of a HIMALAYA Series is to retain Land Rovers iconic analog details and experience, but elevate it.

A 1960s Land Rover that you can actually drive every day, without losing the look and feel that makes it so special in the first place.

Specifically, the dash is a very special place on a Series II.
Something that absolutely could not be haphazardly modified and upgraded.

It would have been easier to just bolt on an AC unit and call it a day.
But it would have been a disservice to the iconic design we love.

Instead, our team here in Charleston, SC decided to build an entire unit that blends seamlessly into the dash as if it was already there - while giving you the modern comfort of heat and AC with easy to use controls.

This is what every HIMALAYA comes back to.

We aren’t building a completely new car and calling it a classic.

We retain the analog experience of a classic Land Rover and the iconic design they perfected decades ago. Then reengineer it.

Greg’s 1951 Series I is a true reminder of where a HIMALAYA starts, and the character that every build needs to retain.

These vehicles all have a story, and our goal is to keep them on the road with families enjoying them for decades to come. by @drivehimalaya
