TROG. The Race of Gentlemen.

This time last weekend, we had the incredible opportunity to experience something truly special.

For those unfamiliar, The Race of Gentlemen brings vintage hot rods and motorcycles together on the beaches of Wildwood, New Jersey, for old-fashioned racing on the sand.

I’ve always been fascinated by the years following World War II. It was a remarkable period of creativity, resourcefulness, and mechanical ingenuity. In America, people were building and modifying cars and motorcycles, creating a culture that continues to inspire generations.

Across the Atlantic, Britain was rebuilding, and in 1948 the Land Rover was born. A simple, utilitarian machine designed to work, built from the same spirit of ingenuity and necessity.

Bringing my 1951 Land Rover Series I to TROG felt particularly fitting. Different countries, different purposes, but machines born from the same extraordinary period in history.

As incredible as the vehicles and racing were, what struck me most was the people.

This isn’t a world I know particularly well. We arrived as outsiders, but after meeting Mel and so many others throughout the weekend, it became clear just how special this community is. The passion, camaraderie, and willingness to welcome us into their world were remarkable.

We even had the opportunity to put the old Series I to work, helping recover race cars and motorcycles on the beach. I can’t think of a more fitting way to experience the event.

We came for the machines and left inspired by the people behind them.

A huge thank you to Mel and everyone who made us feel welcome.

Keep driving.
