Not your typical Ranch.
👨🏽‍🌾 Exploring urban gardens & farms
🍅 Sharing what I learn & feeding the community

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I’ve been around gardening, yard work, and cooking for as long as I can remember.

My grandfather came to the America and built a flower nursery in Phoenix, Arizona.

My dad owned a pizza shop, then a sub shop in Southern California - where I started working at a young age.

Maybe the love for the outdoors, gardening, and cooking was programmed early.

But today, it’s become something more - A way to slow down, stay intentional, and appreciate the little things.

Drizzle Ranch was born from a love for food that feeds the soul…and a curiosity for everything that goes into growing that food before it ever hits the table.

When I moved to Salem, MA a few years ago, I found a community of volunteers who turned an old baseball field into a thriving urban garden. Every other Saturday, Mack Park Farm hosts a market, where a portion of each harvest is available to residents, FOR FREE, and the remaining goes to local food pantries to help those in need.

I remember my first Saturday there, looking around and thinking: this place, and these people, make me happy.

My goal with Drizzle Ranch is simple:

To share the work being done in this community, pass along what I’m learning, and build something around a love for growing, cooking… and yeah, ranch dressing. It’s a recipe I’ve been perfecting for the past 3 years, and somehow, it opened the door to all of this.

So, welcome to Drizzle Ranch. Thanks for being here!

Dan The Man’s DIY compost spinner got a few upgrades, so we had to check them out! 🛠️🧰

Gord and Chef take us through a compost spinner master class as we gear up for the fall season at Mack Park Farm. 🤓

Make sure to follow along for Part 5, where we’ll be talking about what makes up good compost and how we make ours at Mack Park! 👀

This is WEEK 6 of turning under utilized spaces into gardens that feed the community. 🪏🌶️💧

Today we’re getting 3 varieties of peppers into the ground, interplanting some radish along our cucumber fence, and heading to a new site we can’t wait to share more about!

Follow along for WEEK 7!

I’m calling Seth our official unofficial brewmaster at Mack Park Farm.

A few weeks ago he stopped by the farm with some homemade wine and last night, at our dear friend Gord’s birthday party, he blessed us with some homemade mead.

Watch till the end to catch the official taste test! 🍾🙌🏽

📍New Entry Sustainable Farming Project | Beverly, MA

Last week, I had the chance to check out New Entry, and I honestly can’t wait to go back.

The winding dirt road, with fall colors as the backdrop, made for quite the drive in. Once I made my way back to the Food Hub, though, it was all business with the crew.

It was wholesale packing day, so things were busy, but the team still made time to chat, have some fun, and talk about the amazing work they do for farmers all across the country.

If you’re an aspiring farmer, you need to check out everything they have to offer. Going in, I thought this was going to be another “growing food” video, but I left with so much more insight into the work these guys do.

📍 Simi Sam’s Sandwich Shop | Simi Valley, CA

This placed shaped me in ways I didn’t truly understand until recently. Back then it was about making food, and today it’s about growing it.

At some point I hope to get back in the kitchen to document some of the tasty things I cook up with ingredients from the farm - mainly throwing together things I have laying around (recipes aren’t big around The Ranch). But if you see sandwiches on the channel every so often, you know where that love came from.

The Honorable Harvest represents indigenous ethical principals and protocols governing human consumption and the exchange of life for life.

Popularized by Robin Wall Kimmerer’s book, Braiding Sweetgrass, it shifts the view of Earth’s resources from commodities to gifts, fostering reciprocity and land stewardship.

Simple words to live by painted by Mack Park Farm volunteers:

Know the ways of the ones who take care of you, so you can take care of them.

Introduce yourself. Be accountable as the one who comes asking for life.

Ask permission before taking. Abide by the answer.

Never take the first. Never take the last.

Take only what you need.

Never take more than half. Leave some for others.

Use it respectfully. Never waste what you have taken.

Share.

Give thanks for what you have been given.

Give the gift of reciprocity for what you have taken.

Sustain the ones who sustain you and the earth will last forever.

It’s cover crop season here in Mass and last week we got a tour of @the_food_project urban farm in Lynn, MA.

Hazel is one of the farm managers over here and was kind enough to show us around and share some of her knowledge for this time of year.

Winter rye seems to be a popular cover crop for many - we use it for our living pathways back at Mack Park - and Hazel gives us a few pointers for winterizing your garden with this seemingly versatile seed. More to come from this visit soon!

📍ISKCON DC Hindu Temple | Potomac, MD

A few weeks ago I was back home in VA visiting my fam. I’m not super religious, but we decided to stop by the temple since my grandma was in town and it was my kid’s first opportunity to get her proper blessings.

Naturally, as we were waiting, I noticed some green space and a path leading back into the woods. I snuck out in the pouring rain to check out their amazing garden and got to meet some of the caretakers tending to the two cows that have lived there for 12+ years.

If you’re local to the area, they’re looking for a few volunteers to help bring their garden back to life, and if this video isn’t enough to get you feeling the positive vibes, please consider checking it out yourself.

Watching our compost spinner in action will never get old. 👀💥

The love folks are showing this things is beyond our wildest dreams. So much so, Dan the Man and I plan to do a full build this winter so you all can bring this beautiful thing to your own garden. So give us a follow so you don’t miss out!

Dan doesn’t know he’s being signed up for this project, so let’s show him some love so I can drag him to Home Depot soon.

Some exciting things on the horizon for Drizzle Rqnch and friends.

Ain’t no shortage of peppers here at Mack Park. One of our loyal volunteers, Craig, aka Craiggers, put this awesome cheat sheet together a few weeks ago. 🌶️🫑

The Scoville scale is a measurement system that ranks the spiciness and heat of peppers based on their concentration of capsaicin, the chemical compound that makes food taste hot. 🔥

Drop your favorite pepper in the comments!! 👇

📍Area 2 Farms | Arlington, VA

Quite possibly one of the coolest urban farms we’ve ever been to!

Area 2 Farms operates within a 5,000 square foot warehouse in the heart of Arlington. I spent years driving by here for soccer practice growing up, and had no idea a space like this could support over 400 CSA members and produce over 25,000 lbs of food a year.

They operate all 52-weeks of the year and have new locations coming soon to Fairfax, Austin, Atlanta, Columbus, and South Florida. Their model is quite unique, they’ve developed their own proprietary machinery, and they hope to have a farm within 10 miles of 90% of Americans.

I wish this crew the absolute best as a relatively new farm start-up and I can’t wait to check out some of their other locations next time I hit the road.

Until then, be sure to check them out in person or online! You can learn more at www.area2farms.com.
