PRESSURE vs PERFORMANCE:
Cognitive Load & Emotional Intelligence on Clinical Outcomes

-Emergency Physicians face the HIGHEST burnout rates among all specialties.
-Over 60% experience EMOTIONAL EXHAUSTION and DEPERSONALISATION.
-Optimal cognitive load sharpens focus — but when OVERWHELMED, may lead to MEDICAL ERROR.
-Emotional Intelligence (EQ) isn’t just a soft skill - it’s a CLINICAL SUPERPOWER, bridging performance under pressure.

Sharing key insights from my presentation at the 12th International Critical Care & Emergency Medicine Congress & World Academic Council of Emergency Medicine, Antalya, Turkey (April 17–20, 2025) #emotionalintelligence #cognitiveload #conference #emergencymedicine #emergency #medicine #emergency taken in Starlight Hotel Antalya by @drjamalyusoff

Burnout in emergency medicine is NOT A PERSONAL FAILURE.

It’s a DESIGN FAILURE predictable to a system that was never designed to be sustainable.

Across Malaysia and globally, the pattern is consistent:
🧱 workload
🧠 cognitive overload
🏥 system pressure
⚖️ moral distress

And the cost doesn’t remain personal but manifests everywhere.

In our teams, decision makings and ultimately our patients.

So the reality is not just about “how do we cope?”

How do we design something better?

Next shift — survive safely.
Next month — recover intentionally.
Next year — redesign your career.

Because a sustainable career is not found.
It’s built and designed.

Here are key takeaways of my lecture at the 13th International Critical Care and Emergency Medicine Congress, Antalya Turkey. How are you feeling lately?

Do you know what a stroke looks like?

It may not always look the way you expect. Stroke can happen suddenly.

Watch this video to learn how to spot the common signs of stroke and remember, don’t wait if symptoms appear.

If you or someone around you shows signs of a stroke, seek emergency medical attention immediately. by @drjamalyusoff

12 years later… still got it? 🎾👀

Once upon a time, I played competitive tennis back in university. Then life happened, medicine happened, and somehow, 12 years flew by.

Now I’m back on court.

The footwork? Rusty.
The forehand? Needs polishing.
The serve? Needs refinement. 😂

But that familiar feeling of hitting a good ball? Still hits differently.

A little reminder that life shouldn’t just be about work and responsibilities. Sometimes, it’s about finding your way back to the things that once made you happy.

Here’s to old passions, new beginnings and Sundays well spent.

The comeback era begins. 🎾🤍

Straight from work, through KL traffic, and into a world of scents. 🌿

A little weekend detour at Fragrance Festival Malaysia discovering @syedewacosmetics latest creations, familiar faces, and beautiful fragrance stories from Malaysia and around the region. Really proud seeing so many amazing and premium local brands that I never even heard of before! Truly Ive fallen in love with our local fragrance scene thanks to @fragrancefestivalmalaysia

Came curious. Left with a few favourites (and maybe a few bottles too). 🤍

Your job description says Emergency Physician… and somehow this becomes your week. 😅

From dengue and bedside ultrasound, to conversations with GPs, to talking about when “gastric” pain may be something more.

Three very different rooms. Three very different audiences.

Same purpose in making medicine easier to understand, especially when it matters.

Grateful for every room that lets me teach, learn and share. 🤍

thought I was just going to a @mercedesbenzmalaysia fashion show.

But somewhere between the runway, the stories behind ROEMAH and conversations that carried on. The night became more reflective.

A beautiful reminder of how much we share across Southeast Asia of our rich heritage, our idea of home and the stories that somehow feel familiar even across borders.

Fashion brought us together.
Good food kept us at the table.
And connection made the night. 🤍

Congratulations @sethandluna_malaya @syavon.co on ROEMAH a beautiful celebration of heritage, reimagined.

And to the wonderful people, familiar faces and new friends who made the evening even more memorable. Thank you

ROEMAH, and everything after.

🚨 Bersedia Menghadapi Kecemasan
