“Leadership is Heart Work, but First You Must Do the Work”. - @drjohnnyparker

We coach leaders all the time on the importance of self-reflection and personal growth in becoming an effective leader. We emphasize that leadership is not just about managing tasks and people, but also about understanding oneself and developing emotional intelligence.

In our approach, we suggest that leaders must engage in inner work, such as exploring their values, beliefs, and fears, in order to lead with authenticity and empathy.

We offer practical tips for leaders to start their personal development journey, including seeking feedback, practicing mindfulness, and embracing vulnerability and uncovering the layers. It concludes by emphasizing that true leadership requires continuous self-improvement and the willingness to invest time and effort into personal growth.

If you’re a leader, what are some things you struggle with? Let’s chat. #TheParkerGroup #LunchAndLeadership by @drjohnnyparker

Today, how will you first lead you?

I recently spent 15 minutes with Service Manager Keith and his team of Service Advisors at Fitzgerald Toyota in Gaithersburg sharing First Lead You: Remember Your CORE®.

Every leader—and every life—tells a story.

It might be a mystery.
A drama.
Sometimes even a horror story.

But I believe high-impact leaders learn to live a story of love and adventure.

There’s a big difference between showing up FOR love—chasing approval, validation and acceptance—and showing up FROM love—grounded in who you are and how you want others to experience you.

That’s backstage work.

Before the first customer walks through the door. Before the first complaint. Before the pressure and problems of the day…

How will I show up today?

Will I be a fragrance or an odor?

That’s why I call it First Lead You.

Because when a leader remembers their CORE, something changes:

You lead yourself differently.
Your team experiences you differently.
Your customers experience your organization differently.

And in the automotive service world, where customers may arrive anxious, skeptical or uncertain about what their vehicle needs and what it will cost, that matters.

The goal isn’t simply to service a vehicle.

It’s to create an experience where the person who owns that vehicle feels seen, heard and honored.

That’s the kind of leadership and culture I love helping organizations build—from the backstage out.

Thank you, Keith, for allowing me to spend some time with your team.

🎥 Stay tuned for reels and highlights from the experience.

Leadership is hard work, heart work, worth the work—do the work.

Dallas was FRONTSTAGE. 🎤
Today is BACKSTAGE. ❤️

After traveling and speaking together, my Jamaican Sensation and I are back home doing something we’ve practiced for years…

Sweat Intimacy. 💦❤️

Stretching. Exercising. Laughing. Moving our bodies. Taking care of our health—and our marriage—together.

Because intimacy isn’t only built on date nights and vacations. Sometimes it’s built while you’re sweating next to each other. 😂

The frontstage may get the applause, but the backstage sustains the relationship.

Healthy me → strong we.

What’s one thing you and your person do together that keeps your relationship healthy backstage?

What a joy to reconnect with my friend Dr. Curt Thompson (psychiatrist). We we’re both a part of Minirth-Meier Clinics. It was fun for both of us to present at the American Association Christian Counselors Conference at the Loews Arlington hotel. Curt is a prolific writer and I highly recommend his book, “The Soul of Shame: Retelling the Stories We Believe About Ourselves.” by @drjohnnyparker

Yesterday completed video “Expectations in Marriage” for American Association Christian Counselors in Dallas. And just finished a three hour seminar, From Burnout to Breakthrough with our buddy Dr. Mark Crear.

With our travel, schedule and calling we are intentional about physical exercise even as we’re on the road in Dallas.

We call it Sweat Intimacy. And we have more vitamins than Vitamin Shoppe.

Today is lower body.
Steam.
Hot Tub.
Cold Plunge.
Sauna. by @drjohnnyparker

Before two people ever say, “I do,” their stories have already started talking.

Today, my Jamaican Sensation and I stepped in front of the cameras to record “Expectations in Marriage: Intergenerational, Cultural and Spiritual” for the American Association of Christian Counselors.

Every marriage brings at least three stories into the room:

• The intergenerational story we inherited
• The cultural story that shaped our expectations
• The spiritual story God is still writing

We didn’t just teach theory. We shared parts of our own story—where our expectations collided, where we had to unlearn some things and where God continues to renovate us.

The question isn’t whether your marriage is telling a story. It’s: What story is your marriage telling—and who is holding the pen?

We’re grateful to AACC for allowing us to have this important conversation. Marriage is hard work, heart work and worth the work. Do the work.
