When I was 8, I watched The Clone Wars movie in the theater for the first time. After the movie I became so obsessed with the Star Wars universe I started making stop motion animation shorts with my Anakin Skywalker and Captain Rex minifigures and prequel Lego sets. In 2015, Star Wars: The Force Awakens came out on my birthday, I went to the first screening and proceeded to watch it 3-4 times more. Seeing the cinematography and VFX in that movie inspired me so much that I decided that I was going to go to film school. The first season of The Mandalorian came out when I was a Sophomore in college. It was my favorite TV show at the time and I read and watched all the behind-the-scenes content. I remember reading an article on the American Cinematographer showcasing the virtual production tech that was used in the show by ILM, and thought to myself what a dream it would be to work on that team. Fast forward a few years, I’m sitting in the movie theater watching The Mandalorian and Grogu with my friends and hundreds of the incredibly talented people who made the movie possible. I couldn’t help but wonder what 8 year old me would think about all of this. I am so incredibly grateful for all the wonderful people that I met during the production, and thank you to the @ilmvfx LA StageCraft team for bringing me on and making me feel like a part of the family. Special thanks to the camera team, dolly grips and technocrane team for showing me the ropes, I learned so much from you guys everyday on set.
