Tuesday, 15th September 2026, I joined the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, alongside family, friends and associates of Prof. Shaffdeen Amuwo, CON, at a special prayer and luncheon to celebrate his 80th birthday.

Held at his residence in Ikoyi, the gathering was a beautiful opportunity to celebrate a life defined by purpose, distinction, professionalism, dedicated service and an enduring legacy.

I warmly congratulate Prof. Amuwo on this remarkable milestone and celebrate his invaluable contributions to academia, public discourse and the development of our society.

At 80, his life remains a testament to the impact that purposeful service, knowledge and commitment can make across generations.

I pray that Almighty God grants Prof. Amuwo many more years in sound health, peace, happiness and fulfilment, and gives him the strength to continue enjoying the fruits of his labour and the love of family, friends and well-wishers.

May the years ahead bring even greater grace, wisdom and joyful milestones.

The event may have come to an end, but the learning continues.

Good governance needs good people, but strong systems make good governance sustainable.

At the CPSG Public Sector Leadership Forum 2026, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, spoke to the importance of having the right people, people-centred policies, and strong institutional systems that can outlive individual personalities.

(A Strategic Partnership for better connectivity)

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Abia State Government and the Nigerian Railway Corporation is a significant step towards improving connectivity and easing traffic in Umuahia.

The access road linking Okpara Square through Goodshed/Akanu Ibiam Street to Bende Road will support the State Government’s vision of a modern and integrated transportation system.

As Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, I am pleased that the Corporation could partner with the Abia State Government on an initiative that will benefit the people and strengthen transportation infrastructure.

I commend Governor Alex Otti, OFR, for his commitment to development, collaboration and due process.

Today, I joined other distinguished leaders at the 2026 Public Sector Leadership Forum, organised by the Centre for Public Sector Governance, @cpsgnigeria where we examined what it truly means to move from governance principles to measurable public value.

My message was simple “public-sector performance cannot be measured only by the activities we undertake, but by the difference those activities make in the lives of citizens.”

From infrastructure and innovation to inter-agency collaboration, accountability and citizen-centred service delivery, our institutions must continually ask three fundamental questions: What did we promise? What did we deliver? And what difference did it make?
