At the early hours of yesterday, I represented the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation @drkayodeopeifa, alongside the Deputy Director, Commercial, NRC, at the quarterly meeting of the Nigerian Ports Consultative Council.

It’s always a strategic conversation, bringing together key stakeholders and active players within the port and logistics ecosystem who are working to improve efficiency and enhance the ease of doing business for Nigerians.

Starboy had to be somewhere else, so we had to fill in and the boy still tried to keep up virtually. 😂

Times like this prepare you for bigger tables. They teach you to listen, contribute, understand the ecosystem, and most importantly, appreciate the responsibility that comes with representing an institution and its leadership.

The event may have come to an end, but the learning continues.

As we reflect on the insights, conversations, and experiences shared, participants are encouraged to move beyond gaining knowledge to actively applying what was learned in their respective roles and institutions.

Meaningful impact comes when ideas are translated into action, practices are strengthened, and lessons become part of our everyday approach to governance.

Thank you for being part of the conversation. Now, let’s put the learning into practice.

At the CPSG Public Sector Leadership Forum 2026, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), shared a thought-provoking perspective on how we approach problems.

When we see something as a challenge, we complain. When we see it as an issue, we look for a solution.

A simple distinction, but a powerful lesson for leadership, governance, and public sector performance.

Good governance needs good people, but strong systems make good governance sustainable.

At the CPSG Public Sector Leadership Forum 2026, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, spoke to the importance of having the right people, people-centred policies, and strong institutional systems that can outlive individual personalities.

He emphasised that best practices and clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) provide the structure needed for institutions to function consistently, evolve over time, and sustain progress.

Lasting governance is not built around individuals alone. It is built on systems that enable the right people to deliver and institutions to endure.
