Always a joy talking with my good friend Monica. Somehow, it never feels like an interview, just a great conversation.

Lonnie Johnson changed the world once with the Super Soaker; now he’s aiming higher. Based in Atlanta, the inventor and former NASA engineer is developing a revolutionary heat engine called JTEC that can convert solar heat directly into electricity, helping fight climate change. Johnson shares his journey from toy innovation to energy breakthroughs. Despite the challenges and naysayers, it’s his passion for turning vision into reality that keeps him going.

As GivingTuesday approaches, will you consider supporting JSAC’s work in providing hands-on STEM training to learners?

As our 20th year in service winds down, we continue to take on the work of expanding student access to technology and nurturing students’ critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and innovation skills through #free STEM programming.

JSAC houses all levels of @first_official_ robotics teams and is one of only a handful of the @foreveryoungfoundation’s #8to80 Creator Zones, which provides state-of-the-art equipment for students to train in gaming, e-sports, technology, coding, and more.

Check out how your donation can contribute to hands-on STEM. Donate by clicking on our website linked in our bio.

Today, I visited my college mentor, Dr. Francis LeVert. Dr. LeVert is the first African American in the country to earn a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering.

It was Dr. LeVert who encouraged me to pursue my master’s degree in nuclear engineering, a decision that shaped the course of my career.

I will always be indebted to him for his guidance, his brilliance, and the path he made for those of us who came after him. by @drlonniejohnson
