Meet the inventor of the Super Soaker whose legacy extends beyond childhood summers. *In November 2013, an independent arbitrator awarded Johnson Research and Development Co. and inventor Lonnie Johnson a $72.9 million settlement from Hasbro Inc. The award concluded a legal dispute filed in February 2013 regarding unpaid royalties and a breach of contract claim related to the licensing of the Super Soaker and Nerf product lines. 🎥: @markkendallcomedy

I met Dr. Lonnie Johnson today!!! He’s such a hero to Black scientists and creatives. The embodiment of STEAM. Most people know Dr. Johnson as the inventor of the Super Soaker. But his genius extends far beyond that. Scientist. NASA engineer. Inventor. 140+ patents. A man who has spent his life turning imagination into innovation. Today, we shared space. He made space to hear me speak. What an honor!!!! Our work meets at a powerful intersection: the belief that curiosity is sacred, creativity is essential, and the capacity to imagine something that does not yet exist is among our greatest human gifts. Give thanks #STEMSTEAMMakeDream #StayLowAndKeepFiring #TheWork

Homecoming season is a good time to look at what came out of those campuses. The Root's new list, From HBCU to CEO, features Black founders who got their start at HBCUs, and our co-founder Rodney Williams (Howard University) is on it alongside Oprah Winfrey, Will Packer, Janice Bryant Howroyd and Dr. Lonnie Johnson. Between them they've built a billion-dollar staffing company, a film slate that's grossed over $1 billion, a lipstick brand sold nationwide and the Super Soaker. Swipe through all nine, then tell us in the comments which HBCU is showing out this homecoming. Full list via @the.root #HBCU #Homecoming #BlackFounders #BlackBusiness #FromHBCUtoCEO

Earlier this month, I attended The Innovators Table, which featured a fireside conversation with Jaylen Brown, NBA superstar and Founder of the 7uice Foundation, alongside Dr. Lonnie Johnson, known for inventing the Super Soaker, and the Founder & Chairman of the Johnson STEM Activity Center (JSAC) 💡 In a powerful conversation moderated by Ryan Wilson, The Gathering Spot CEO and co-founder, these two innovators dropped lots of gems, but one that I found to be really striking was Brown’s advice for breaking the algorithm and reprogramming your brain from what it may have absentmindedly picked up through doomscrolling, and having the world at your fingertips 24/7 thanks to social media. 📲 Feel free to check it out and drop your thoughts 💭 #jaylenbrown #lonniejohnson #atlanta #socialmediadetox #astoldbysly
