A special summer edition of my @ccrm_ca Signals feature – #RegenerativeMedicine News Under the Microscope 🔬– is live!

#Longevity is a hot topic, to say the least. My pick of the summer is a study on IL-11 showing that when this cytokine is knocked out or knocked down in rodents, lifespan is extended by ~25%. Clinical trials for lifespan extension aren’t very feasible, so ongoing human work is testing anti-IL-11 treatments for specific indications; *especially* safety. Remains to be seen whether these findings will hold up for us as people, but in the meantime, we can enjoy the authors’ very cool results in mice!

Defending my PhD on the 10th was truly a dream come true. Thank you to everyone who helped make this a reality. Such a beautiful way to ring in 2024 — with gratitude, family, friends, and the most amazing colleagues + mentors that anybody could possibly ask for.

Re-posted @withregram • @nikkolas_smith - “Imagine a teenager named Ralph Yarl rings your doorbell, and your immediate (racist and hate filled) response is to shoot him in the head…
- Imagine being such a terrible human being that your next move is to shoot Ralph AGAIN, after he falls to the ground…
- Imagine walking freely into AND out of the police station, after explaining to the cops what you just did to Ralph…
- Imagine miraculously surviving that attempted murder, and fighting for your life in the hospital while thousands of supporters fight for justice on your behalf.

Yall know what to do >>
* (Ralph’s GoFundMe link in (@nikkolas_smith)’s stories to donate)
* Contact Prosecutor Zachary Thompson to demand immediate arrest - Building: James S. Rooney Justice Center - Address: 11 South Water Street Liberty, Missouri 64068 - Telephone: 816-736-8300 - Email: prosecutor@claycopa.com”

Can someone please explain to me where November’s gone?!

The latest edition of Regen Med News Under the Microscope 🔬 went live a couple of days ago over at @ccrm_ca Signals. I’ve highlighted some remarkable research stories you won’t want to miss! Take, for example, the mouse above, whose spinal cord injury was repaired ✨

Also, this month, we open up the voting for “Reader’s Choice 2021.” In a few days, we’ll list select research stories from each blog post in this series (most of these will be Picks of the Month), and it’s up to you to choose the one that inspired you the most. Voting will close on December 31st, and the winner will be announced in January.
