It is my honor to serve my Alma Mater, the illustrious South Carolina State University, for 2 more years in the capacity of Vice-Chairperson for the Board of Trustees alongside Chairman Douglas Gantt.

Under our leadership, and with guidance and support of our Board and a collaborative relationship with President Alexander Conyers and his cabinet, the University has seen a tremendous amount of growth both academically, athletically, and aesthetically with 250+ million dollars in construction going on right now.

It is our hope that our alumni, University community, family, friends and supporters continue to lift our beloved University up in love and support with your time, talent, teachings and treasures.

Thank you for your continued trust in us to move the University forward.

In June, I was one of the last guests on @dailyblastlive before its sunset in September.

It was such an amazing experience to appear on a nationally syndicated talk show with hosts you’ve watched and admired for years. Talk about a 🤯 experience 😍.

Although sad to see the show end, our favorite hosts and personalities are keeping the mics🎙️hot with their own show @daytimetalkafterdark featuring @ericacobb @iamtoryshulman @aljacksonig @samschacher @jeffschroeder23.

My remarks at the #WhiteHouse were centered around highlighting the needs of the #GapGenerationCaregiver. This caregiver group is often times underrepresented and under supported, but I got you 😉.

Caregivers, saying “NO” to people and things that no longer serve you has so much power and presence. 💪🏾

As a caregiver, choose people and places that bring about peace and purpose. It’s your time, so share your space with intent. If your soul is screaming “NO,” trust yourself.

Everybody who comes with you, can’t say with you. You got what I’m saying. 😉🤗

Don’t forget to be the spouse, daughter, son, etc while caregiving.

Yes, your loved one deserves good care, but they also deserve you, as well. Don’t forget about your God-given role while you’re fulfilling your caregiving role.

People with dementia respond to how you make them feel. It’s not that hard to comprehend. But it is challenging for caregivers to maneuver.

Caregivers are human first and then they are caregivers. Give yourself grace and take it one day at a time.

Caregiving is an invisible 🫥 disability that people typically don’t see until burnout raises its ugly head.

Miriam Webster defines /disability/ as any physical, mental, cognitive, or developmental condition that limits a person’s ability to perform certain daily tasks, activities, or social interactions.

Caregiving is all of these ⬆️!

Having dementia should not be a life sentence; although a life altering condition.

Ankle monitors should not be used in memory care communities. The best way to “control” unsafe wandering, is to prevent it from happening in the first place.

Ensuring they have engaging activities is a great place to start.
