A diagnosis isn’t a label — it’s a tool.
Whether it’s hypermobility EDS or another explanation, understanding your body helps you advocate, build the right care team, and manage chronic symptoms. It’s about being believed, supported, and equipped. The mental load of a schedule full of appointments just to feel at baseline is exhausting. If you are dealing with #eds the @bodybraid is one tool to add to your toolbox. 🧰 #pelvichealth #core #hypermobilitysyndrome #pain by @drmissygallow

After 14 years of working with my hands every single day… my fingers are finally asking for some support.

As a manual therapist and someone with hypermobility, my little finger joints have taken on a lot—and it’s starting to show.

So I’m really excited to be getting silver ring splints from my OT @conscious.connections.ot 🖐🏽✨

Not as a limitation—but as a way to sustain the work I love.

These splints will give my joints the stability they need so I can keep showing up fully—for my patients, my practice, and my lifestyle.

Support isn’t weakness. It’s strategy. #Hypermobility #eds #manualtherapy by @drmissygallow

For my hypermobile EDS folks: standing, bending, and repetitive tasks can add up fast. I wear my Body Braid around the house for things like laundry and cooking because it gives me proprioceptive input and full-body support when my joints don’t naturally know where “stable” is. It helps me feel more organized, grounded, and less fatigued during everyday tasks. Support isn’t a luxury—it’s a tool. #pelvichealth #core #eds #hypermobility #physicaltherapy by @drmissygallow

Can you be a runner with hEDS? 🏃‍♀️

YES—but I’ve learned that running with a hypermobile body requires a little more intention.

I’ve always strived to be a well-rounded athlete. I do yoga, Pilates, CrossFit, strength training…and I run. Fun fact: I actually ran hurdles in high school! 🏃‍♀️

But running has also always been challenging for me. My shins and calves tend to ache pretty quickly, and for years I didn’t fully understand why.

Now, knowing what I know about my hEDS and hypermobility, I have a much better appreciation for how much strength, stability, recovery, and soft tissue mobility can matter when it comes to tolerating the repetitive demands of running.

My body probably isn’t built for marathons—and that’s okay. I don’t need to run 26.2 miles to call myself a runner.

I enjoy a quick 1–2 mile run occasionally, mostly for my mental health, cardiovascular health, and because sometimes it just feels GOOD to move that way. ❤️

Having hEDS doesn’t mean I have to avoid challenging my body. It means I’ve learned to understand it, support it, and choose the dose of movement that works for me.

You don’t have to fit the traditional definition of a “runner” to run. 🏃‍♀️💪 #running #eds #hypermobility #runner #athlete

🧰 Your October Toolkit is here!

October is National Physical Therapy Month, and we’re celebrating by talking about something we believe in every day at Misama: taking care of your body shouldn’t only start when something hurts. 💛

Physical therapy is so much more than recovering from an injury. It can help you better understand your body, build strength and mobility, recognize changes, recover well, and keep doing the things that matter to you.
So this month, we’re keeping it simple with 5 tools to add to your toolbox:
🚶 MOVE — Find ways to move your body consistently. Walking, Pilates, lifting, stretching, playing with your kids—it all counts.
💪 STRENGTHEN — Build strength for your actual life. Carry the kids. Lift the groceries. Run the race. Get off the floor. Keep doing the things you love.
✨ RECOVER — Your body needs recovery too. Rest, sleep, mobility, nutrition, and giving your body time to adapt are all part of making progress.
🔎 NOTICE — Pay attention to what your body is telling you. Pain, leaking, pressure, heaviness, stiffness, weakness, or changes in what you can tolerate are worth noticing—not just pushing through.
🙋‍♀️ ASK FOR HELP — You don’t have to wait until something becomes unbearable to seek support. A PT can help you understand what’s going on and build a plan that makes sense for your body.

This Physical Therapy Month, our challenge for you is simple:
What’s one thing you want your body to keep allowing you to do—and which tool can you use today to support it? 🧰✨

Save this toolkit for the days you need the reminder. And if “Ask for Help” is the tool you’ve been putting off, come see us at Misama. 💛

I’m spending a lot more time at my computer these days than at my treatment table 💻➡️🚶‍♀️

A walking pad has been a great way to add more movement into my workday—but for me, more movement isn’t automatically better movement. If I’m not intentional, I can actually end up with more pain.

A few things I’ve noticed:

Walking too slowly can change my natural gait pattern. And if I’m walking while keeping my hands planted on my desk, I lose a lot of the natural arm swing and thoracic (upper back) rotation that should happen with walking.

My sweet spot? Using the walking pad for lower-focus tasks or meetings where I can bump the speed up a little (around 1.3–1.5 mph) and let my arms spend some time naturally by my sides.

The goal isn’t just to get more steps—it’s to give my body movement that actually feels good. 🙌

London, you were brilliant. 🇬🇧

Two days of questioning assumptions, exploring different bodies, experimenting with movement and load, and navigating the grey areas of diastasis.

One participant summed up their biggest realisation:

“I overcue and underload my clients.”

Knowing the principles is one thing. Knowing how to apply them to the person in front of you is where the nuance lies.

This Labor Day, we’re honoring the work that doesn’t always get recognized. 🤍

The planning, carrying, comforting, remembering, driving, feeding, supporting, and showing up—day after day.

For moms, dads, partners, and caregivers, so much of what keeps life moving happens quietly behind the scenes.

And through all of it, your body is working right alongside you.

Here’s to caring for the body that carries you through the everyday.

Happy Labor Day from Misama Wellness. 🤍

Hypermobility doesn’t mean fearing movement—it means moving with intention. 💪🏼

Two hypermobility providers, two kettlebells, and one shared belief: strength can be a powerful tool. 🫶🏼

The goal isn’t to focus on what our bodies shouldn’t do. It’s learning how to move, load, adapt, and build capacity safely.

For hypermobile bodies, intentional strength training can provide support, feedback, and stability. That may mean modifying the movement, adjusting the load, using support, or slowing down to find the right strategy.

Not perfect movement—more capable movement.

And sometimes that looks like two hypermobile healthcare providers swinging kettlebells together. 😉💪🏼
