Since 2001, the NOAA Educational Partnership Program (EPP) has helped develop more than 4,000 graduates across multiple institutions in NOAA-aligned disciplines. This year’s 25th anniversary celebrates the past, present, and future scholars whose education, research, and service have supported. and will continue to advance, NOAA’s mission to strengthen coastal ecosystems, advance science and technology, and uplift coastal communities.
Ten years ago, I attended this conference as a NOAA ECSC Scholar and undergraduate student at Florida A&M University, presenting my research at CUNY in New York. At the time, I was just beginning to understand ocean processes and our connection to them.

A decade later, I returned to New York for this forum as a postdoctoral researcher with Florida A&M University. Coming back in this new role was a full-circle moment—one that reflects not only my own growth as a scientist but also the lasting impact of NOAA’s investment in developing the next generation of researchers. I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to research, mentor students, and continue advancing NOAA’s mission.

A special thank you to this year’s conference organizers, center leadership, and NOAA Education leadership for bringing us together to celebrate this important milestone.

In the spirit of exploration, from space to the deep ocean, watching #ArtemisII space launch from beginning to end was not only a sight to see after 50 years, but pushes the boundary of knowledge and wonder of the unknown. Analogous to deep ocean exploration, where each deeper descent reveals a new discovery, space exploration invites us to reach new heights ( or in this case the moon). The courage, innovation, and persistence, holds the potential to transform our understanding of life, our planet, and our place in the universe. #NASA #Artemis by @droceanographer

The work of the Civil Rights Era and Rev Dr. Martin Luther King didn’t stop in the 1960s it changed shape and the voice of the people still continue. While there has been progress, there also has been stagnation. As if time stopped and those concerns or dreams didn’t matter. Yet, today those who are the oppressors, time-stoppers, and the schemers uses these quotes as niceties for their own agenda. But we can’t give up because the march and fight for justice continues! I wouldn’t call myself an activist or “radical” just someone who truly believes that we can achieve what we need and dream for today and tomorrow.

Here is a quote that resonates with me today from my personal and recent experience.

“The hope of a secure and livable world lies with disciplined nonconformists, who are dedicated to justice, peace, and brotherhood. The trailblazers in human, academic, scientific, and religious freedom have always been nonconformists. In any cause that concerns the progress of mankind, put your faith in the nonconformist!
