Thank you to the North East Space Conference for inviting me to open your amazing event: over 400 hundred people, thank you for your warm welcome, for looking after me and for your wonderful feedback!

Space is the proving ground of human ambition, ingenuity and diplomacy: every satellite we launch, every system we build, every mission we undertake, serves a purpose - they monitor and safeguard our planet, they strengthen global connectivity, anytime and anywhere, and they unlock economic and scientific opportunities unimaginable just a few years ago!

See you in Cambridge ….

TEDx NorthernQuarter Sells Out!

At the age of five while stargazing in the crystal-clear Northern-Irish skies, I was totally mesmerised by the beautiful constellations: like most children, I borrowed and read every book on space from the local library and knew then I wanted to spend my life developing space technology. As any inquisitive and curious child would, I also wondered if space technology could be used to help people and make our world, Planet Earth, a safer and happier home, or was it all about little green men!

Today, we live in a satellite-enabled age, part of a $Tn New-Space Economy, and the spacecraft orbiting overhead are not science fiction, but part of a critical, life-support system we depend on daily. Satellites provide a detailed understanding of what is happening in our world, deliver awe-inspiring imagery observing the fragile eco-systems of our beautiful planet, our home.

From the Ubers and Just Eats we order, satellites deliver global communication and broadband internet anytime and anywhere, navigational positional accuracy, contributing space-based solutions to humanity’s biggest challenges such as Climate Change, Food Sustainability, Digital Divide, Disaster Management, Water Security, Telemedicine, as well as ensuring our National Security.

I will be speaking at TEDx NorthernQuarter 2026 in Manchester, September 11th, on, The New Space Age: It’s About Fixing Earth’s Problems and Looking Forward!

See you in Manchester ... by @drrajanbedi
