POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Imagine going from foot drop and a wheelchair…
…to dancing at your child’s wedding.

That’s not a dream—it’s the real story of Wendy, a woman with multiple sclerosis for nearly 30 years who thought her best days were behind her.

In the first episode of the Multiple Sclerosis Wellness Research Podcast, I interview Garrett Salpeter, founder of NeuFit, to share how targeted electrical stimulation is helping people with MS retrain their nervous systems and achieve what once seemed impossible.

🧠 Inside this episode, you’ll discover:

Why neuroplasticity is the key to regaining function—even after years of disability

How the Neubie device is restoring strength, reducing foot drop, and improving balance

Stories of MS patients reclaiming their independence, mobility, and joy

The science behind NeuFit’s boot camps and how they accelerate recovery

How electrical stimulation may also support energy, cognition, and mood

This isn’t just theory. It’s real, documented progress—backed by peer-reviewed research.

And this is just the beginning. I am launching a full podcast series dedicated to exploring cutting-edge science, functional medicine, and real recovery strategies for people living with MS and other chronic illnesses.

I did not see any of this coming. Not my recovery, not the change in my clinical practice, not the resistance from dietitians and medical colleagues. Nor did I anticipate becoming a banned speaker for creating false hope by the National MS Society. I didn’t expect the small pilot study or my TEDx talk would have such an impact. Fortunately, I was mostly oblivious to the criticism and outcry, focusing instead on the next task at hand.

Having purpose is key to thriving. My original purpose was teaching my children to not give up, regardless of how difficult life becomes. It all had to happen as it did. I needed to become profoundly disabled so that I was forced to search for a better way. I needed to be an eccentric individual, a bit socially awkward, oblivious to criticism and rejection. I needed to feel a moral duty to share my story so that others with disability could learn from my experience. I needed my children to be watching so I had to keep being a model of not giving up. I needed my wife to help me survive the darkest of times. I am grateful for it all: my illness, my family, my colleagues, the National MS Society, the Institute for Functional Medicine, the Ancestral Health movement, the public with chronic health problems. I needed them all then and now, so I could identify my new purpose: creating an epidemic of health.

What does it really mean to age well?

For me, it's about so much more than adding years to our lives.

It's about maintaining the strength to move confidently, the balance to stay independent, the resilience to navigate challenges, and the sense of purpose that makes life meaningful.

And one of the most important things I've learned through my own health journey is that lasting change doesn't happen through knowledge alone. It happens through the actions we take every day.

That's why Part 2 of my new longevity course focuses on building the systems that support healthy aging.

We'll explore muscle and bone health, balance and fall prevention, cellular maintenance, purpose, and the science of sustainable behavior change.

Because the choices we make today can help shape how we function in the decades ahead.

What if one of the most important goals of longevity isn't living longer, but staying independent?

As we age, falls become a serious concern. They can lead to fractures, hospitalizations, and a loss of the independence we value so much.

But here's what I want you to understand: There are steps you can take to reduce your risk.

In Part 2 of my LIVE course, Thrive to 100 and Beyond, we'll explore:

• Strategies to reduce fall risk and support balance
• Why having a sense of purpose matters as we age
• How to build habits that support long-term health
• Concrete steps to make healthy behavior changes stick

Because knowing what to do isn't always enough.

The real transformation happens when we turn knowledge into consistent action.

I want to help you build the resilience, strength, and sustainable habits that support a longer, healthier, more independent life.

PART 2: Building Resilience – Your Body's Support Systems

What if your cells are accumulating garbage as you age?

It may sound strange, but your body has sophisticated systems designed to identify, break down, and recycle damaged proteins and cellular components.

As we get older, these cleanup processes can become less efficient.

The result? An accumulation of cellular debris that can contribute to inflammation, dysfunction, and the biological processes associated with aging.

But here's what I find fascinating: We can explore ways to support these natural cellular maintenance systems.

In Part 2 of my LIVE course, Thrive to 100 and Beyond, I'll take you deeper into the science of cellular cleanup and the strategies that may help your body maintain these important processes.

We'll also explore the systems that help you stay strong, balanced, adaptable, and independent as you age.

PART 2: Building Resilience – Your Body's Support Systems

Tuesday, October 20 at 6:30 PM CDT

Because longevity isn't just about adding more years to your life.

It's about supporting the systems that help you function well throughout those years.

When we talk about longevity, we need to talk about breathing.

We spend a lot of time discussing nutrition, exercise, supplements, and other strategies for healthy aging.

But what about your airway?

How well are you breathing, especially while you sleep?

Airway compromise can affect sleep quality, and understanding your breathing and airway health is an important part of looking at the body as an interconnected system.

It's also something I want parents thinking about for their children, because the way we breathe and develop early in life can have implications that extend well beyond childhood.

In Part 1 of Thrive to 100 and Beyond, I'll take you deeper into airway health and explore how breathing connects with sleep and the larger longevity conversation.

And that's only one piece of Part 1.

We'll also explore inflammaging, cellular senescence, mitochondria, hormones, evolutionary biology, the stress and trauma responses, and what we can learn from people who thrive to 100 and beyond.

I don't want to give you another list of longevity hacks.

I want to help you understand how these systems connect.

What does the way you breathe have to do with how well you age?

More than you might realize.

Airway health can influence the quality of your sleep, and sleep is one of the foundations we need to think about when we're talking about long-term health and resilience.

In Part 1 of Thrive to 100 and Beyond, I'll explore some important questions:

Are you at risk for airway compromise?

How might your airway be affecting your sleep?

What signs should you be paying attention to?

And what can you do to better support airway health, both for yourself and your children?

This is just one piece of what we'll explore in:

Part 1: The Foundation – Understanding Inflammaging

We'll connect the dots between breathing, sleep, evolutionary biology, chronic inflammation, mitochondria, hormones, the stress response, and other factors that can influence how well we age.

Because longevity isn't just about what happens when you're 70, 80, or 90.

The foundations of healthspan are being built throughout your life.

The longevity field is moving fast. I'm keeping up with it because my own health depends on it.

I'm not observing the science of aging from the sidelines. I'm a physician, a clinical researcher, and a patient living with progressive MS.

I attend the medical conferences. I study the newest research. I talk with researchers and clinicians. I conduct research of my own. And I continually ask how these discoveries might translate into better function, greater resilience, and a longer health span.

Thrive to 100 and Beyond is where I'm bringing that work together for you.
Over three live classes, I'll take you through the science I believe matters most right now, explain why it matters, and help you think about how it applies to your own health journey.

Not longevity hype. Not a collection of biohacks. A physician's evolving framework for living better, longer.

What do your stress response, trauma response, breathing, sleep, airway health, and evolutionary biology have to do with longevity?

More than you might think.

In Part 1 of Thrive to 100 and Beyond, I’m bringing together some of the most fascinating research and concepts I’ve been studying to help you better understand the biology behind how we age.

We’ll explore:
• How to distinguish the stress response from the trauma response
• What evolutionary biology can teach us about modern health
• What we can learn from people who thrive to 100 and beyond
• Why breathwork matters for jaw development, sleep, and airway health
• How chronic inflammation and inflammaging can influence the aging process
• The connections between hormones, mitochondria, immune function, and healthspan

There is so much more to longevity than chasing the latest anti-aging trend.
I want you to understand your biology so you can make more informed decisions about how you support it.

There was a time when saying diet and lifestyle mattered in MS was considered dangerous.

When I first began sharing my recovery story, I faced intense pushback. I was even banned from speaking to an MS support group because of concerns that my message could give people “false hope.”

But times are changing.

Today, diet, exercise, stress management, and other lifestyle factors are increasingly part of the conversation at major MS clinical meetings. Research into dietary interventions has grown, and some of the very ideas that once generated resistance are now being discussed alongside conventional MS care.

It has been a remarkable evolution to witness.

In my latest blog, I’m sharing the story of how this journey began, the pushback I faced, the research that followed, and how the conversation around diet and lifestyle in MS has changed over the past 18 years.
