life lately 🧡

being back in denver has been an experience to say the least. teaching three classes in person, dipping my feet into doing floral stuff again, unexpected move due to racism (eeeeyuck), reunions, seasonal depressive episodes, hugs, my favorite bevys, live music, fangirling husband and puppy cuddles.

this season is a reminder of how dynamic life can be. the ups, the downs, the highs, the lows.

no one is immune to that.

no one.

as humans, it’s important to honor the fragility of life. things come and go. everything is temporary.

and while a part of that may feel disorienting and scary when we apply to the things we love and enjoy, that also includes pain and distress and darkness and sadness and anger.

everything is fleeting.

nothing lasts forever.

let that be a call to honor it all.

be present enough in your life to honor each season.

in the words of spice girls, too much of something is bad enough. too much of nothing is just as tough.

honor each stage, phase & season in your life.

allow it to teach you, grow you, lead you, guide you, remind you…

of your sacred humanity.

it’s all temporary & all necessary. by @drthatgirl

faceless cdmx 💜

Mexico City is a magical place. i miss it every day.

the fresh fruits & veggies right outside the apartment, the architecture, the art, the textures, the food, the PEOPLE.

i feel deeply inspired each time i have the privilege to visit this city & feel internally changed by all i experienced here.

i’m writing this on a plane ride back to denver after being home in memphis for my little brother’s graduation. and i don’t think i realized how much i needed to go home until i got there.

physically home.
spiritually home.
culturally home.
ancestrally home.

there was something incredibly cyclical about being back in the same city, same neighborhood, same house i grew up in. watching my little brother graduate from the same high school i attended. being around people who taught us, guided us, raised us. hearing the cadence of memphis conversations again.

the loudness. the accents. the storytelling.
the laughter layered over grief
layered over resilience
layered over joy.

the fish fry.
the bbq.
the humidity.
the mosquitos.
old school music playing somewhere in the background.
people hugging you too long.
people feeding you without asking if you’re hungry.

community showing up without invitation because that’s just what we do.

my body exhaled.

and as i walked into a local, Black owned coffee shop, @cxffeeblack the barista recited:

“welcome home.”

congratulations baby brother— i hope you truly know and always remember how deeply, fully, wildly loved you are 💛 taken in Memphis, Tennessee by @drthatgirl
