If you’ve ever felt invisible in a room full of people, this is for you.

I’m tired of taking up less space. Here is me taking that back.

Here is my story.

Here is what I’m building.

Swipe for my story.

I grew up completely alone. No Muslim families. No one like me.

That fracture shaped everything, how I became a doctor, why I build spaces for others in disconnection, and what I’m doing now.

If you recognise yourself in this story, you’re home here.

A century ago, my great-grandfather was mislabelled Afghan by a country that could not be bothered to learn his name. He was Baloch. He crossed oceans as a cameleer and helped build Muslim life in a place that called him alien.

He married a Yamatji Badimaya woman. Their line runs through me.
Some patterns are older than we think. And some of them live inside us now. This page is where we talk about it. Not to shame. Because our tradition demands better, and because whispering has never healed anything, speaking out does.

🌟 2026 AUSTRALIAN MUSLIM ROLE MODEL OF THE YEAR, FINALISTS!

Leadership. Integrity. Inspiration. Community.

Great role models do more than achieve success. They inspire others, challenge perceptions, lead by example and demonstrate the power of using their influence to make a positive difference.
Mission of Hope is proud to announce the three outstanding finalists for the 2026 Australian Muslim Role Model of the Year Award.

🌟 Ali Faraj
🌟 Dean Mousad
🌟 Dr Umber Rind

The Australian Muslim Role Model of the Year Award celebrates individuals who embody the values of integrity, compassion, leadership and service, while positively representing Australian Muslims in their professional and community lives.
At a time when positive representation matters more than ever, recognising Australian Muslim role models is an opportunity to celebrate those who inspire confidence, strengthen community pride and demonstrate that Muslim identity and Australian achievement go hand in hand.
These finalists remind us that being a role model is not simply about personal accomplishments. It is about the example we set, the values we uphold and the positive impact we have on the lives of others.

👏 Congratulations to Ali, Dean and Dr Umber on being named finalists!
We look forward to honouring their contributions and announcing the winner at the 2026 Australian Muslim Achievement Awards.

Deeply honoured to be inducted onto the 2026 Victorian Multicultural Honour Roll.
To be recognised alongside so many people doing meaningful, important work in our communities is incredibly humbling.
My sincere thanks to @drsenemeren for the nomination, and for your ongoing support of this work.
To my ancestors and those who came before me, whose strength and sacrifice made my path possible, this belongs to you. And to the communities and patients who have trusted me with their stories: you shape everything I do.
This acknowledgement strengthens my commitment to working alongside marginalised communities, advancing health equity, and dismantling the structural racism that shapes who gets care, and who doesn’t.
The work continues. 🤍

Standing with Nyadol Nyuon on this one. 🤝🏾
Australia has never had just one culture. It has the world’s oldest living cultures, British colonial culture that was imposed on First Nations people, Muslim traders and cameleers, and millions of families who arrived since.
📊 2021 Census: 51.5% of Australians were born overseas or have a parent who was. More than 5.5 million speak a language other than English at home.
Belonging doesn’t mean becoming smaller. What’s something in your culture thats yours to keep? Share below. What do you think of the concept of assimilation? 👇🏽

Phone voice. Coffee name. The lunchbox you hid. We laugh about it, but assimilation was once official Australian policy, and it was dropped in the 1970s. You don’t owe anyone a smaller version of you.

Are you an immigrant healthcare worker feeling alienated right now?
45% of Australia’s healthcare workforce is made up of us. We keep the system from collapsing.
If you’re experiencing workplace racism, bullying, or systemic exclusion—you’re not alone. And you don’t have to carry it by yourself.

RECOGNISE IT:
Passed over for promotion? Credentials undervalued? Excluded from leadership? Microaggressions about your accent/background? Unequal pay? Being blamed for systemic failures? That’s workplace racism. It’s not normal. It’s structural.

HOW TO RAISE IT SAFELY:
DOCUMENT: Date, time, what happened, who saw it. Keep copies. Patterns matter.

YOUR OPTIONS:
🔹 Talk to someone you trust first
🔹 Formal complaint to HR/management
🔹 Union rep (ANMF, AMA, RACGP)—free legal support
🔹 Fair Work Ombudsman: 13 13 94
🔹 Victorian Equal Opportunity & Human Rights Commission: 1300 292 153
🔹 AHPRA (if conduct breached)

GET SUPPORT BEFORE YOU RAISE IT:
Your safety comes first. Workplace EAP is confidential. Your union has your back. You don’t go in alone.

WHERE TO GET HELP:
✉️ Your union—free advocacy
☎️ Fair Work: 13 13 94
☎️ VEOHRC: 1300 292 153
💬 Beyond Blue: 1300 22 4636
🤝 Community Legal Centres
🌐 Migrant healthcare worker networks

YOUR FEELINGS ARE VALID. Self-doubt, fear of retaliation, exhaustion—all normal. You don’t need to prove racism to deserve support. Collective action is more powerful than going alone.
Swipe for the full carousel. Follow for strategies to reclaim your power.

You know that guy at work? The one who’s clearly less qualified but somehow has the better position?

That’s not coincidence. Pauline Hanson is just the famous version of workplace racism.

Mediocrity (being pretty average) gets rewarded when whiteness is your credential. If you’ve lived this, this one’s for you. ❤️😘😉

Peak white mediocrity: the ability to build a 30-year political career on recycled grievances, zero formal education, zero policy substance and still be taken seriously. Meanwhile, immigrants of colour are held to impossible standards. We have to be educated, credentialed and eternally grateful!!

Pauline Hanson proves that whiteness alone is enough. 🫤☕️🥱😴

Drop your story in the comments. How many times have you watched mediocrity (being average) get rewarded at work and around you?

I was offered a flyer by a one nation campaigner today outside of a Lebanese bakery, in Melbourne. Ohhh the irony and hypocrisy…

To anyone out there who is feeling the same, please reach out. I need to know I’m not going crazy in these feelings of frustration and resentment. How is it ok now to have an openly racist party like one nation just out there handing out flyers. Especially handing one out to a visibly Muslim woman.

Pauline Hanson has openly said there is a Muslim invasion. Yes I agree, an invasion of Drs, nurses, aged care workers, students who pay exorbitant fees, health care workers, engineers. Without migrants this country would fall apart. Extract our labour then on top of that abuse us and tell us we don’t belong.

Why don’t we have one day where we all protest against racism and don’t turn up to work?? I’d call it “work against racism #workagainstracism
Let’s see how Australian society functions without us.

Please share and follow as I intend to share more about this hypocrisy.

This isn’t the early 2000s where we cower away. We stand up and speak up. Watch the triggered racists who are usually the most ugly human beings post under this. Drown out their racist cries with telling me what you do for work that’s essential and how devalued you may be feeling right now.

I’m not afraid to speak out and neither should you be. ❤️❤️❤️✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾❤️💛🖤 by @drumberrind

My mother spoke Urdu. My father speaks Baluchi I don’t speak either. And there’s a grief in that I’m still carrying because I can’t speak it.

She tried to give me the language. But there was no one else to speak it with. No aunties. No cousins. No community to hold it. Just isolation in the Pilbara and a system that said: speak English or fall behind.

By twelve, I understood it. I couldn’t speak it fluently. Now, I can never ask her to teach me. Never speak it back to her. Never give her that.

There’s shame in that. Deep shame. Like I abandoned something sacred.
She carried Urdu her whole life. She tried to pass it to me. And I couldn’t hold it the way she needed.

If you carry shame about the language you can’t speak, the heritage that slipped through your fingers, the people gone and all the transmission that went with them, that grief is real. And it deserves to be named.

This is what disconnection does. It severs transmission. And sometimes, it’s irreversible.

You’re not alone in that grief.

Colonisation severed the transmission. But it can’t sever us from each other. I’m building communities where languages and people don’t get lost alone.

Instead we build a community together.

Have you lost a language or languages? If you have share with us all below 👇🏽 ⤵️ by @drumberrind
