There are moments in life that define you and change you forever. THIS was one of them. In Karachi, we spent a day in Khuda ki Basti — one of the most underprivileged areas I’ve ever seen. We distributed food, clothes, and basic essentials. But what we received… I don’t think I’ll ever be able to explain. We were met with open arms. Children laughing in streets that spoke of survival. Mothers who held your gaze just long enough to let you feel their strength. Smiles that broke your heart and filled it all at once. It was overwhelming. It was beautiful. It was life-affirming. No one asked for handouts. They asked to be seen. To be remembered. To be treated with dignity. And in return, they gave us something far greater than anything we could offer — Presence. Joy. Humanity. I held tiny hands. Heard prayers whispered through tears. Laughed through the lump in my throat. And in those moments, I realised: This isn’t charity. This is purpose. That day shifted something in me. It anchored me more deeply in my WHY. I’ve found my calling — and it’s here: In service. In love. In lifting others with whatever I can. This is why I do what I do. Not for photos. Not for praise. But because this is what fills my soul. APPSUK isn’t just a charity. It’s a promise. We operate with 0% admin — every penny goes directly to those in need. No deductions. No distractions. Just honest, impactful work. Because that’s what they deserve. I’m so deeply grateful for the opportunity to see, firsthand, the incredible work this charity is doing — changing lives, restoring dignity, and planting seeds of hope where they’re needed most. We may not be able to change everything. But we can all start somewhere. Two years later, I returned to Khuda Ki Basti in Karachi. I knew the place had stayed with me. I never expected that I had stayed with them too. Familiar faces lit up. Little arms wrapped around me. I saw that same sparkle in their eyes, and I could hardly believe they remembered me. The love with which they welcomed me back moved me more than I can say. This time, I returned to run a free dental camp for the children: checking their teeth, applying topical fluoride, dressing cavities and sharing simple ways to prevent dental pain. Because pain was something we saw far too much of. When families are focused on meeting their most basic needs, dental health understandably cannot always come first. But that does not make a child’s pain hurt any less. I know one day cannot solve that. But perhaps it can create a ripple. One child who understands a little more. One episode of pain we might prevent. One positive experience of being cared for that stays with them. We ended the day distributing food to the families. Just as they had two years ago, they met us with open arms and gave us more warmth than I know how to put into words. A heartfelt thank you to the APPSUKF team for bringing this community together, and to everyone whose quiet work, time and heart made this day possible. ❤️ Changing the world can feel impossible. That’s why it’s so important to carefully plan the right approach for each patient. 🦷 For this lovely patient, we discussed orthodontic treatment as an option.
