"Don't come to me. My stuff is boring. Go see an oral surgeon." 😅

That's what Luvaan Rooyan says one dentist told him when he asked to shadow. It's one of the reasons Dr Yash Naidoo started this podcast: nobody tells you what the job is really like.

Luvaan knew what he wanted. Not a desk or a screen, but people, hands-on work, business meetings and the odd round of golf. Dentistry, in his words, was the perfect combination. He also gives a shout-out to Cape Town's @lexleodrsmile, whose work he finds inspiring.

Who did you shadow before choosing your career? 👇

"I actually don't wanna be working behind a computer all day." 💻➡️🦷

Luvaan Rooyan says he was always the computer kid. IT was his favourite subject, and coding and entrepreneurship were the plan. Then, halfway through grade 11, with AI arriving and the world shifting, one visit to the dentist changed his mind.

His reasoning: dentistry asks you to be academically strong, good with your hands, good with people and business-minded if you want your own practice. For him, it was the perfect mix.

Then he Googled which professions own the most Porsches. 🏎️
