In Kashi, life unfolds at its own pace. The Ganga flows, rituals continue, and centuries of wisdom invite us to look beyond what we see.

Svarūpa - A Journey Back to the Self is a 5-day immersion into traditional Yoga practices, meditation, yoga philosophy, and the living spiritual traditions of Varanasi.

Through morning practices, philosophical inquiry, intentional silence, satsang, a dawn boat ride on the Ganga, temple visits, Ganga Aarti, and most importantly by simply being, we explore yoga beyond the physical postures.

At the heart of this journey lies a simple practice: learning to pause, observe without immediately reacting, and become comfortable with just being.

This isn’t a conventional holiday. It’s an invitation to experience India through its ancient wisdom and perhaps return with a different way of seeing yourself and the world.

MY JOURNEY —

I didn’t choose Yoga. In many ways, it chose me.

I’ve been around the practice since I was 5, but it took a friend “forcing” me into a training at 19 to realize its power. I went in cluelessly; I came out with a lifelong passion.
But the real transformation happened 5 years ago when I moved beyond the physical and returned to the ancient scriptures. It changed my life, and it changed the way I teach.

Now, through ĀtmaYoga, I share Yoga as it was meant to be: a complete system of Philosophy, Practice, and Embodied Presence.
Because it’s not about how deep you can bend; it’s about how clearly you can see.

I’m curious, what brought you to the mat for the first time?
Was it a physical goal, or were you looking for something deeper?
Let’s chat below.

Most high performers are exhausted not from the work, but from the war inside their own mind.

A private session is where that changes.
We work one to one. Through the body, through the breath. You start to see what’s running you and slowly, it loses its grip.

People leave calmer. Clearer. More like themselves.

If that’s what you’re looking for message me to apply.

Ever caught yourself replaying a conversation that ended hours ago? You keep thinking about what they meant, what you should’ve said, or what they might be thinking about you.
And somewhere along the way, a thought becomes something you believe.
But just because your mind tells you something doesn’t make it true.

Sometimes, the first step is simply learning to notice the thought without getting carried away by it.

That’s something we can practise through yoga, on and off the mat. 🌿 by @dubaiyoga.ae

What if your next journey wasn’t about discovering a new place, but discovering a different way of seeing?

In the ancient city of Varansi (Kashi), life unfolds along the Ganga, in the first light of dawn, the rhythm of the ghats, the chants of evening aarti and centuries of wisdom that invite you to look within.

Svarūpa is a 5-day immersion into Yoga philosophy, meditation, yoga as a living tradition and the raw spirituality of Varanasi.

Through daily practice, philosophical inquiry, satsang, a dawn boat ride on the Ganga, temple visits and an exploration of Sarnath, you’ll discover yoga beyond the postures and the art of observing life without being carried away by every thought, emotion or reaction.

Four nights in Kashi. A small group of seekers. Space to slow down, question, observe and simply be.

The wellness industry told you to destroy your ego.

The Upanishads never said that. Not once.
Ahamkara — the I-maker — is not your enemy.

It’s a case of mistaken identity. Yoga doesn’t ask you to destroy it.
It asks you to see through it. There’s a difference.
And that difference changes everything.

Most people think spiritual growth means subtracting: less ambition, less pleasure, less wanting. It isn’t subtraction. It’s the difference between having something and being had by it. Patañjali called it rāga, clinging born of forgetting who’s doing the wanting. You don’t need to leave your life to study that. You just need to notice where you’ve stopped choosing and started gripping. by @dubaiyoga.ae

On the 13th of June, a small room sat with a question most people never ask, what is yoga actually pointing toward.

Long before it was postures, it was inquiry. The Vedic seers used it to investigate consciousness itself. The Upaniṣads turned that inquiry into philosophy. Patañjali gave it structure, and even then the body was one limb out of eight, defined in a single line, steady and comfortable, nothing about flexibility. Centuries later, Hatha Yoga built the physical system we now mistake for the whole practice.

That’s the part most people never get told. The shape of the body was always the smallest, newest piece of this. What the tradition actually built across two thousand years was a method for finding out who is aware behind all of it.

That was the real subject of Yoga Beyond The Mat. by @dubaiyoga.ae

That conversation stayed with me longer than it stayed with him.
I’ve noticed the people who struggle most to sit still are usually the ones performing at the highest level. The nervous system doesn’t switch off just because the working day did. And a mind that never stops moving can’t step back far enough to see where it’s actually going.

So I’ll ask you what I asked him.

What’s your definition of success?
Write it in the comments. Not the polished version, the honest one. by @dubaiyoga.ae

Sometimes the problem isn’t that life is too loud.
It’s that our attention is everywhere.

Yoga gives you a way to come back to what’s in front of you - and eventually, to yourself.

What has your attention today? by @dubaiyoga.ae

Most of us are so identified with our thoughts that we never stop to ask, Wait - who’s actually thinking this?

We spend our entire lives reacting to the movie, completely forgetting that we are the screen.

And this is why so many people feel lost. Not because life is hard, but because they’ve confused themselves with everything that’s happening to them. The job, the relationship, the anxiety, the good day, the bad day, they think that’s who they are.

Indian philosophy says no. All of that is just the script. It keeps changing. And you, the real you, is what’s watching it all.
Unchanged. Unmoved.

That’s not a spiritual concept. That’s the most practical thing you can know about yourself.

Something we discussed in “Yoga beyond the mat” workshop last weekend. by @dubaiyoga.ae

Someone asked me once if their practice was not working because they still felt anxious all the time.

I asked about their life outside the mat. Turned out they were in a relationship that left them depleted most days.
Constant tension, constant managing of someone else’s moods, very little that actually felt steady.
No amount of pranayama fixes that. You cannot breathe your way out of an environment that is quietly destabilizing you every single day.

This is something Svātmārāma was specific about.
Jana-sanga, the company you keep, comes up directly in the Haṭha Yoga Pradīpikā as something that either supports or undermines your practice.
And I do not just mean romantic relationships. It is the people you spend time with, what reaches you through your phone constantly, the voices you carry around long after a conversation has ended.

None of this means cutting people off or building walls. It means actually noticing. After an interaction, are you more settled or less.
Do that honestly for a few weeks and the pattern becomes impossible to miss.

Your practice does not exist in a separate room from your life. The two were never separate to begin with.

What is something in your life right now that you know is costing you, but you have been avoiding looking at directly?
