Bio:

The Duchess of Lore is a Toronto based illustrator inspired by the arts of bygone eras. Her intricate, symbol-rich work draws from folklore, mythology, astrology, history and the natural world. A longtime student of Tarot, she is creating her own deck, reimagining its archetypes through a visual language that feels at once ancient, dreamlike and deeply personal.

Statement:

The High Priestess, The Empress and Death explore three faces of the Tarot: mystery and intuition, creation and abundance, and transformation through endings. My interpretations draw on traditional Tarot symbolism while weaving in folklore, celestial imagery, and my own evolving symbolic language. Richly ornamented and slightly uncanny, the works invite close looking and the discovery of hidden details. For Spiritual Noir, I hope they feel like illuminated relics from a world suspended somewhere between the sacred and the strange. by @duchess_of_lore

Another trip around the sun 🌞✨

Life has been quite full lately. Quietly preparing to welcome our second little one into the world this month while trying to savour these last days before everything changes again. Feeling grateful for my family, my strange and winding creative path, and for these familiar furry companions who’ve been beside me through so many chapters. 🐱

The Hanged Man... A card of voluntary stillness, surrender, and transformation. Serpent limbs coil around ancient oaks as autumn leaves fall into still water below. What do you think of this interpretation of The Hanged Man?

This card became deeply personal to me while creating it, arriving alongside my own season of suspension and transformation during pregnancy. I shared the full symbolism and story behind it in today’s newsletter.

Beltane Blessings to you my loves! 🌸

This piece is called The May Pole, a work created in celebration of the pagan fire festival of Beltane that takes place on May 1st, around the halfway point between the vernal equinox & summer solstice! 🌸

Swipe to see details & the full version, including the May Queen and Sun Youth presiding over the ceremonies on either side. In the field you will find the foliage of Beltane, including hawthorn, lily of the valley, wild violets, ground ivy, mugwort, and roses. Two sacred cows are safely making their way between two bonfires to pave the way to a year of abundant harvest. 🌸

This piece can be found in the Occult & Folklore Colouring Book! Check the link in bio to grab a copy, and as always, sign up for my newsletter to keep on top of my tarot progress and new releases! 🌸
