Finished my page for the Occult and Folklore book by the Duchess of Lore. I used Neocolor 2's, Black Widow Pencils, Guangna Acrylic Markers and Languo Shiny Gel Pens. I always enjoy colouring in this book for the group and seeing their interpretation of the same page. Everyone's page always looks amazing.

Equinoxes tend to remind us of our connectedness and the patterns of all that is. Whether I am lying under the stars or sitting in Zazen meditating, or at peace in prayer, the intuitive knowledge that there is a patterned universe, or an underlying meaning to all experience, or a primal source, to which “I” am connected, always evokes a feeling of reverence. It is something known rather than thought about, so that explanatory words are inadequate; as the Tao Te Ching, by Lao Tsu, begins, “The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao.”

To some, the changing of seasons is proof of a patterned universe. For this amazing moment in time day and night are equal, a perfect harmony of light and darkness offers opportunity to feel great connection and reverence.

As the days are becoming noticeably shorter, and our descent into the darker half of the year begins, may we all take pause and give thanks to the bounty and harvests that this beautiful earth is providing for the long winter months ahead. Happy Fall Equinox and Merry Mabon.

Please welcome @duchess_of_lore to the collection!

Bio:

The Duchess of Lore is a Toronto based illustrator inspired by the arts of bygone eras. Her intricate, symbol-rich work draws from folklore, mythology, astrology, history and the natural world. A longtime student of Tarot, she is creating her own deck, reimagining its archetypes through a visual language that feels at once ancient, dreamlike and deeply personal.

Statement:

The High Priestess, The Empress and Death explore three faces of the Tarot: mystery and intuition, creation and abundance, and transformation through endings. My interpretations draw on traditional Tarot symbolism while weaving in folklore, celestial imagery, and my own evolving symbolic language. Richly ornamented and slightly uncanny, the works invite close looking and the discovery of hidden details. For Spiritual Noir, I hope they feel like illuminated relics from a world suspended somewhere between the sacred and the strange.

🧡💜🖤 This is a custom that someone has been VERY patiently waiting for. She even mailed me the keys to use! 🖤🗝️

In Ancient Greek mythology Hecate is known as the goddess of magic, witchcraft, crossroads, and the night.

Hecate is associated with liminal spaces — thresholds, boundaries, transitions between worlds (life/death, known/unknown).

She is often depicted as a “Triple Goddess” — maiden/mother/crone, or shown with three faces/bodies facing different directions at a crossroads.

She is known as a Guide of Souls; linked to the underworld and psychopomp work (helping souls transition after death).

She has also been referred to as the Keeper of keys — sometimes called “Key-Bearer,” symbolizing her power to open/close doors between realms.

Correspondences for Hecate:

🖤Magic, witchcraft, and sorcery (she’s essentially patron goddess of witches)

🧡Crossroads and choices — decision points, new paths

💜The night, moon, and darkness

🖤Boundaries, protection, and warding

🧡Death, the underworld, and ancestor communication

💜Wisdom, especially “hidden” or esoteric knowledge

🖤Transformation and change

This artwork is not mine. I found it here on instagram and I think you might like all of her work! Very unique! @duchess_of_lore

Here is another fun Buddy Color with my dear friend Deb AKA @deb.e.mixedmedia. It’s from the creatively, beautiful coloring-book Occult & Folklore by @Duchess_of_Lore

This ‘Danse Macabre’ page is a personal favorite of mine. What I wanted to achieve was so that it would look like it came out of a Tarot Card deck.

Please swipe to see Deb’s gorgeous page. Thank you again Deb and I hope you enjoyed your tacos 🌮 . I know I did. 😉

I used Copic Markers, Himi Gouache Paint, and Languo Acrylic Gel Pens.

Be sure to follow both of us here on Instagram to see our works!
