I love creating portraits of people that are near and dear to me. The venerability they show to me to create an image is a sign of great trust and connection. And I am always grateful for that one moment.
All images were created on a Nikon F 35mm with either Ilford Delta 100(20yr old film) or Konica BW 25iso from Japan film.

R.I.P Riche. You are truly missed brother.

I am incredibly honored to be featured at Carlotta Gallery Fine Art Photography. After submitting my work, one of my images was selected for inclusion in the Cold exhibit. I received the wonderful news along with some very kind words from the gallery’s curator.
Below is the email I received from the curator:
Dear Ryan,
Thank you very much for your interest in the Gallery. It is a pleasure to meet you through your photography work. I would love to introduce myself, my name is Carlotta Olympia Pompei, a Fine Art Photographer and Gallery Curator, based in Hertfordshire, United Kingdom.
I would also like to thank you for sharing your artist submission and for providing such a thoughtful and evocative artist statement too. I am fascinated by the way you trace your relationship with photography back to your family history and the legacy of the Duclos (Desclaux) family. I also love how you frame photography as both a personal practice and a reclamation of history, and I admire the depth of reflection in your words. Your description of winter landscapes as a space for clarity and meditation resonates deeply, and after reviewing all three of your shots, I really kept returning to the one you titled "American Bison", created in 2020. The intimacy of this close up is simply incredible, and the way the monochrome tones interact with the snow creates a sense of such majesty, and the subtle details you capture, every strand of fur and every expression in the bison’s eye, are breathtaking. Technically, the image is superb, and emotionally it carries an immense weight. While all of your works are compelling and demonstrate a remarkable sensitivity too, this particular photograph truly stands out for me. It would be my pleasure to present it and to share this piece with a wider audience.

2025 was another challenging year, filled with change and more obstacles than I expected. There were many days when I questioned continuing in this career. Then an opportunity arrived—along with an email like this—that reminded me why I keep going.

My first bikepacking trip — and definitely not my last. 🏕️🍂

A couple of weeks ago, I headed into the Washington high country to experience the larches firsthand. It was brutal, exhausting, and a lot more work than I expected… but it’s an experience I can’t wait to do again.

I’ve been missing the high-alpine riding I grew up with in Colorado, and this trip was exactly what I needed. Big climbs, incredible views, good company, and the kind of riding that makes all the effort worth it.

Huge thanks to Jenson USA for supplying the camp gear from Big Agnes and Snow Peak, and to Loam Equipment, Pivot Bearings, and Evil Bikes for being part of the adventure. And of course, a massive thanks to @duclosphoto for capturing the trip so well.

Already looking forward to the next one.

What an amazing autumn season of trekking deep into the mountains.

Just another reason why it’s my favorite time of year.

Great dirt, great colors, foraging mushrooms and great experiences.

But it’s not free.

You have to push yourself to exhaustion. Battle the ups and downs. Push and carry your bike while ascending 1000’s of feet. And do your best to not fall and get hurt.

It’s amazing.
