Working to uplift Black people and communities of color at Duke and in Durham since 1994.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Duke NAACP was heartbroken to hear the news of the Nolan Wells case.

Now, we can’t help but be angry at the injustice of it all.

Nolan Wells’ case deserved careful deliberation that answered all the questions presented at the trial. If he had only drowned, why was there no water in Nolan’s lungs or stomach? Where did the blood and the blunt force trauma come from?

Mississippi convened a grand jury that did nothing but reach an inconclusive answer on the issue of how Nolan Wells died. Nolan Wells’ family deserves more than inconclusive answers. Duke NAACP is calling for renewed attention to the death of Nolan Wells and stands in solidarity with his family.

Black children deserve to grow up!

Duke NAACP will continue to show up and demand justice. by @dukenaacp

Combatting free expression and the First Amendment 🤩 it's the #DukeDifference

Duke Administration:
❌ Freedom of the Press (the free press can't come onto campus to cover any of our actions, like the rally in solidarity with Jane Doe last Thursday)
❌Freedom of Assembly (Duke's draconian anti-protest PPD policy is amongst the most repressive in the nation, requiring students to register protests 2-3 weeks in advance)
❌ Freedom of Speech and Academic Freedom by @dukenaacp

To all survivors of sexual violence: You deserve justice and validation. You deserve much more institutional care and consideration than you were afforded. We should’ve mobilized long ago to prevent what happened to you. For too long, sexual violence has been dismissed not only by those in charge, but by our entire culture. This needs to change now. We will fight to dismantle the systems that failed you and the rape culture perpetuated on all of our college campuses. We believe you. We support you. You are not alone. by @dukenaacp

Three of our Executive Committee Members had the privilege and pleasure of attending last weekend’s @ncnaacp1 State Convention. This marks the first time in over 5 years that Duke University NAACP’s Chapter has attended, and we were so grateful to represent and network. From meeting Roy Cooper to networking with other chapters such as @ecunaacp, @wssunaacp, @hpunaacp, and @uncgnaacp, we had a wonderful time learning about NAACP and how best to lead our chapter. by @dukenaacp
