Combatting free expression and the First Amendment 🤩 it's the #DukeDifference Duke Administration: ❌ Freedom of the Press (the free press can't come onto campus to cover any of our actions, like the rally in solidarity with Jane Doe last Thursday) ❌Freedom of Assembly (Duke's draconian anti-protest PPD policy is amongst the most repressive in the nation, requiring students to register protests 2-3 weeks in advance) ❌ Freedom of Speech and Academic Freedom

To all survivors of sexual violence: You deserve justice and validation. You deserve much more institutional care and consideration than you were afforded. We should’ve mobilized long ago to prevent what happened to you. For too long, sexual violence has been dismissed not only by those in charge, but by our entire culture. This needs to change now. We will fight to dismantle the systems that failed you and the rape culture perpetuated on all of our college campuses. We believe you. We support you. You are not alone.

Students should be able to feel safe on campus, without the threat of sexual violence, and whenever those institutions fail to protect us and the people we love, it’s up to us to demand change. Thank you for rising up and demanding action, transparency, accountability and justice for Jane Doe, and all survivors of sexual violence. 📸: @artivista.jpg

Saturday, Syajia Green (President), Chris Lovick (1st Vice President), Colden Waters (Co-Social Media Chair), and Jalen Moore (General Body Member) represented the ECU Chapter of the NAACP at Day 2 of the 83rd NC NAACP State Conference! 💜 We had the opportunity to hear from Gala Keynote Speaker LaTosha Brown, who reminded us that we have 38 days to get it right and that the work we’re doing in our communities truly matters. We were honored to hear from former Governor Roy Cooper and National Training and Campaign Manager Keturah Butler-Reed, who shared insights on polling, redistricting, bylaws, and strengthening national, youth, and collegiate chapters. A special thank you to Nevaeh Hodge for inviting our chapter and giving us the opportunity to connect in a space filled with so many incredible and extraordinary young people, experienced leaders, and fellow college chapters, including Winston-Salem State, Duke, High Point, and Greensboro. Day 2 was filled with learning, connection, networking, and opportunities to grow as young leaders. We are grateful for every conversation, every lesson, and every person who poured into us throughout this conference. The work continues. 💛

Duke University, the students have spoken — and we’re done waiting. 🔥 1,700+ voices. 90% support. And still, silence from President Price. We refuse to sit idly by in classrooms while our communities and the people we love are under attack. This Friday at 12 PM, we the undergraduate students will WALK OUT onto Abele Quad bc When Duke fails to protect our rights, Students stand up and STRIKE! For a $25/hr living wage. For a 4th Amendment Campus. For every immigrant, student, and worker who makes Duke University run. Abele Quad. Be there. Wear Duke Blue. Bring a friend. For the people we love. For the places we call home.

Over the course of 7 days, we've spoken to more than a thousand students on campus, having real 1-on-1 conversations about what a 4th Amendment Campus would mean to our classmates and our Duke community 💫 On Tuesday alone, more than 260 — 4% of the entire student body, signed our 4th Amendment Campus Referendum Petition. As we won the support of the over 1,000 students required to get our referendum on the @dukestudentgovt ballot, the verdict is clear: students want to see Duke protecting the people who make this University run. We, the students, have spoken. Now Duke University must hear our call. The students are rising, the workers are rising, professors are rising, the people are rising, Durham is rising! Duke University, it’s OUR time to rise 🦋☀️
