🎃 Spooky season is pure magic for some kids 👻 — and overwhelming for others!😰😭

👀 If you’re parenting a sensitive kiddo this month, a few things that help:
1️⃣ Give a preview what’s coming (“There may be scary masks at the door, how do you feel about that?”)
2️⃣ Offer opt-outs without shame (“”Hey, it’s totally okay if you don’t want to do XYZ.””)
3️⃣ Always let your kiddo set the pace (“”Hey, just checking in how’re you feeling?””)

👉 Bravery grows from feeling safe, not from being pushed.💪 Save this post as a reminder for the weeks ahead 📌 and share it with a parent who needs it! 📥

Meet a Comms PhD researcher 🧑‍🎓…

On the 3rd episode of the Philosophy of Practice Podcast, I sat down with Emily Dawson. She is a 3rd Yr. Ph.D. Student, Purdue University and has already completed two other comms degrees from Cornell and University of Maryland!

She also applied her knowledge in practice in her own comms consultancy @dulynotedconsulting !

She shares a little bit about her research on interpersonal relationships in the full episode!

Let me know and I will send the full link to you!

💭 What does it really mean to go no contact?
💭 Why do people sometimes reach that point after years of trying to repair a relationship?

In this episode of Philosophy of Practice, I speak with communication researcher and practitioner Emily Dawson. She is a current PhD student at Perdue University and a Cornell and University of Maryland graduate. In this episode we talk about family estrangement, the murky definition of no contact and the limits of treating relational or structural problems as though they belong to one individual.

Emily is the founder of @dulynotedconsulting , after this episode you are going to want to have a coffee with her!

We also discuss her own journey of becoming, mentorship, doctoral identity and why researchers cannot assume that publishing behind a paywall is the end of knowledge translation.

The full episode is available now. What do you think distinguishes no contact from estrangement or low contact? Comment EMILY and I will send you the episode link.

#ProBono #HolidaySeason #FamilyCommunication #CommunicationCoach #DulyNotedLLC by @dulynotedconsulting

🍂 Every new season asks families to communicate in new ways — as children grow, schedules change, responsibilities evolve, family communication must evolve alongside them. 🍂 So as routines change this fall, relationships need to adapt, too. 🍂

📆 Whether it’s a new school schedule, changing work responsibilities, or simply busier calendars as the winter holiday season rapidly approaches, this is a great time to revisit expectations with the people you care about. Strong families aren’t the ones who never need to adjust — they’re the ones who keep communicating as life keeps changing. 🫂

🗣️ Clear communication today can prevent unnecessary conflict tomorrow.🙂‍↕️

So today, we challenge you to think about conversations about any recent life changes that you may have been putting off lately. Jot down a brief list, and consider having a family chat to get ahead of any conflict that might arise from uncertainty or confusion as the business of fall continues.🍂🫂
