dear utah, this is my goodbye
for the past decade i’ve hung by a thread of my own flesh
i’ve learned how to survive the desert hidden in snow
there in that frozen desert i found the true essence of me
gratitude gratitude gratitude
i am grateful
i am grateful for the days spent here
all that has come from this land, this people
however, i will not paint a one shaded portrait
it has been a fight
it has been a hustle
fighting and hustling and more fighting and more hustling
and why? i wonder. i truly truly wonder.
did i have to fight so hard for what was so naturally flowing within me?
these words may feel broken to others
but to me
it’s all coming together
the blood shed in this dry desert will form with the petrified wood
although you may make a great home for some
i will not continue on in this desert
goodbye, dear dwindled utah.

I grew sideways again…
I’ve held tightly to this hair since I was 12 years old. I always called it my “cloak of protection”
She did just that
For over a decade my hair protected me until I no longer needed that protection
I honor every strand of hair
Every memory
Every trauma
And now I am strong enough to release some of those weights that would do more harm than good to keep on my head
This door was always there
Always open
And now I have taken a step beyond the doorframe
Depths of grief have filled me
But today I celebrate
Today marks my 25th year alive in this body
Happy birthday Dune Moss
Happy birthday little me
I greet this year with a breath of death
