Shaping Stories Through Clay
In the hills of Atzompa, Oaxaca, Taller Los Tepalcates transforms raw earth into expressions of life, history, and imagination. Sisters Laura and Asunción Enríquez Chávez carry forward the legacy of their community, where each piece is a testament to the deep connection between hand, material, and culture.

Using tools as simple as corn cobs and stones, they create ceramics that embody both tradition and a surrealist edge. Their process begins with sourcing local clay, carefully prepared and shaped with techniques passed down through generations. Each piece carries the spirit of their ancestors, infused with humor and storytelling that breaks free from convention.

For EARTHLING; the duo embraced experimentation, crafting objects that extend beyond utility—lamp bases, intricate vessels, and oversized tableware—all imbued with textures and forms inspired by folklore and daily life. The result is a body of work that pays homage to their roots while embracing bold, new narratives. by @durbecq
