I’m so incredibly honored to be a 2025 Guggenheim Fellow along with so many incredible artists, scholars, writers, and thinkers. Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way and, as always, to everyone who has let me photograph them. #guggfellows2025 by @durzt

The rebuilt Joplin High School for @nytmag — Fifteen years ago, Joplin, MO was devastated by a tornado that killed 161 people, making it the deadliest tornado in America in over half a century. Check out Eve Fairbanks’ article about the school district’s race to rebuild and the backlash that followed. by @durzt

A year ago, I had the pleasure of visiting and photographing the home of the late, great @danieljohnstonofficial — The house is preserved much as he left it when he died in 2019–a strange, crowded memorial to Daniel’s interests, obsessions, creativity and genius. by @durzt

JOIN US TOMORROW, THURSDAY:

Split Second celebrates artists whose work engages the world of sports and athletic culture during FIFA’s World Cup festivities in Houston.

Opening on Thursday, June 18, in HCP’s HOU Gallery—an exhibition space dedicated to Houston-area and Texas photographers—Split Second explores the drama, spectacle, and ritual of sports.

The exhibiting artists will join HCP for an opening reception on Thursday, June 18, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM CST.

Featured artists include:

Eli Durst, Geoff Winningham, Jorge Pineda, Patty Carroll, & Tay Butler

Together, these artists present diverse perspectives on sport as both a physical endeavor and a cultural phenomenon. Through documentary observation, conceptual inquiry, and staged imagery, Split Second considers the fleeting moments that define competition and the broader narratives that surround athletic participation. by @durzt
